Given that I already have 3 base plates, I just went ahead and purchased a 3” handle and an additional top cap. Now I have 2 complete fantastic (both aesthetically and functionally) razors at about 2/3 of the price of  a Wolfman.

And to my eye Karve razors look more pleasing than any other razor.

I find the look more pleasing as well. I find the aesthetics of the compact 3 inch Karve more attractive than my Wolfman, Paradigm, Charcoal and more. It’s beautifully designed and built.

I also find the Karve 3" handle one of the most attractive in my den. The overall aesthetic of the Karve is one of my favorites, but my Wolfman WR1 open comb in stainless, Paradigm 17-4 and Charcoal Goods Level 3 open comb in antique brass are all, in my opinion, more pleasing to the eye--overall--than the Karve (as complete razors). That 3" Karve handle, though, is tough to beat...

This bodes favorably, considering I have yet to try my D plate, and have since fallen headlong for the CG lvl 2, not to mention the Blackbird. This being said, I enjoyed a moment this evening whilst playing with my toys, made possible by Chris Kirchen, who not only forged the razor (1st production run), but also produced this fabulous bottle opener, which as it turns out can be readily fastened to one's mountain bike...

Is that ginger beer and rum with lime? Never heard of that, but now I have to try it.
Yessir! Mix ginger beer with spiced rum and you have yourself a Dark & Stormy. I highly recommend! However in this case I went with a nice Cuban (non-spiced) rum. Had no fresh citrus on hand, but the RealLime fit the bill just fine Smile

CCity’s comments echo my own sentiments. I think the Karve Razor is beautifully designed, and the Handle is one of my favorites out of all the Razors I own. As far as the overall aesthetics are concerned, for me personally my Wolfman Razors, Paradigm, Charcoal Goods, and Blackbird are all more pleasing to my eyes. The Karve with its bead blasted finish just doesn’t quite compare to me. Shave wise, for me, it holds its own with any of the above mentioned. The Karve’s price point in my opinion makes this Razor the best Bang for your Buck around. I ordered a second Karve Razor 3” with the D, E, and F plates to go with the 3.5” D Plate Razor I already own. I plan on polishing the new one like so many others have, and letting my first one develope a Patina over time. This is such a great shaver at such a great price that I plan on buying more as gifts for my Brothers in law in the future. I would definitely grab a Karve in Stainless as well if it were ever to be made available!

My second shave using the D plate and this is undoubtedly an ideal daily shaver, for me. It doesn't shave as close in two passes as my Blackbird, but certainly performs the task with total smoothness and zero irritation.

I wrote, yesterday, that I felt the F plate was slightly more aggressive than my Timeless 0.95 OC. It certainly gave me a close, two-pass shave along similar lines to the Timeless, but, interestingly, I had more growth this morning than I was expecting, and certainly more than 24 hours after using the Timeless. As a daily shaver, this is no bad thing as I usually need to skip a day after using the Timeless. I just need to use the F plate now for a few consecutive days to see if that plate is comfortable for doing so.

Just finished my full 3-pass shave with the E-plate (polished). Subjectively, the polished finish does improve the shaving experience noticeably - the end result was a perfect BBS after the third pass; no buffing or clean up was needed. The polished top cap glides effortlessly and is much easier to clean after the shave. Little oxidation spots can easily be removed with a glass cleaning tissue when the razor is dry.

I am glad that I purchased the three base plates - they all shave well and could be used interchangeably depending on my mood and time availability.

The E-Plate is my favorite, especially after I polished it. It shaves fantastically and is on par with my MOST favorite razor - BlackBird First Gen.
The D-Plate is the one that I can use inebriated and remain uncut, while getting an extremely close shave.
The F-Plate is the most aggressive, but it is so smooth that I can still use it daily for 2-pass shaves (XTG and ATG) and get bloodless BBS shaves in a shorter time.

Cheers!

That’s what I keep hearing. I went with this single head to start. I prefer mid aggressive shavers like blackbird, timeless 95, 17-4. The only real exception is that I prefer the WR1 in the .61 gap over the larger ones for whatever reason. I figured I could add or trade plates as needed.

I got some replies from PVD applicators. Here is what one well respected company wrote me back.

Thank you for your interest in our company. Unfortunately we have a $250.00 minimum on all orders which Is actually low for the industry.

We would need to nickel and chrome plate the brass razor prior to the PVD process. This will add cost to the job but certainly not as much as our minimum.

In other words it would be an expensive endeavor.

Maybe I need to put together a group buy Smile Here is an example of their PVD work https://westcoastpvd.com/wp-content/uplo...lipped.png
