That’s what I keep hearing. I went with this single head to start. I prefer mid aggressive shavers like blackbird, timeless 95, 17-4. The only real exception is that I prefer the WR1 in the .61 gap over the larger ones for whatever reason. I figured I could add or trade plates as needed.

The D-Plate is the one that I can use inebriated and remain uncut, while getting an extremely close shave.
The F-Plate is the most aggressive, but it is so smooth that I can still use daily

I completely agree with this statement, I used my BBS1 this morning to compare since I’ve been using the Karve a lot lately and I still think that I still prefer the BBS1, but the Karve is currently being produced and the price of the Karve is a fraction of what you can get a BBS1 for if you can find someone that will part with one

I tried almost all contemporary razors, and unfortunately for me the biggest disappointment was the BBS-1. I was lucky to have owned three different BBS-1, and while they were extremely beautiful I could never get a BBS shave from either of them using ALL my favorite blades. Now those BBS-1s found their new homes with fellow wet shavers.

The Karve razor on the other hand became my greatest discovery of the past two years. Aesthetically I prefer it to most (if not all) of my safety razors. The quality of shave is on par with my best shavers - Blackbirds. And with every base-plate the razor delivers a very different, yet similarly satisfactory experience. Of course it is all a subjective personal opinion, but coupled with the razor's exceptional price and availability all these make this razor an absolute champion.

Should Chris decide producing Karve razors in other materials and finishes, he would become one of the leading forces on the wet-shaving market.

ANG69 when you say Blackbirds are your best razors what’s the Karve lacking to dethrone it?

I think there is enough space on that throne Smile

There are three main characteristics that make BlackBirds First Gen my absolute favorite razors:

1. Sharp edges, which do not reduce the pleasure of the shave but serve as the guides.
2. Unique design, which speaks to my personal experience and preferences.
3. Absolutely efficient and irritation free shaves.

The Karve is a very different animal. When polished is looks and feels like a jewel. It shaves like a dream and with different baseplates it behaves like a new "person." So, as I said - there is enough space on that throne for both of them Smile

The handle is a bit shorter but it’s become a favorite. I love it. Shaving with the Karve the past month no question ‘our’ favorite discovery Alex in some years!

As I mentioned earlier I know Stainless Steel but have also heard Titanium from a close friend of Chris.Happy2

First the SynBad, then the Karve! I am too weak, and am just a follower! vtmax, after a month, how do you like the glide? I don't think you polished your Karve. Most folks that polished the razor seem to have done so for looks, not glide. As I am trying to be patient and wait for mine (and can than experience it for myself), I am trying to glean as much info as I can from others' experiences!

Eric, we’re all not steering you wrong on this one. Get it! The glide is wonderful but as Alex has said the polish glides beautifully.

I’m going to let mine patina. I saw chris’ own patina in his Instagram account.. A beautiful golden brown. I want that!

The BBS-1 was not a big disappointment but the 2 I owned have also found new homes, nothing special for me.

I really hope that every base-plate delivers a similarly satisfactory experience because my wife saw that I could not decide which one to take and she ordered all of them for my 60th birthday later this week Big Grin

I feel you will enjoy them all. I also owned two BBS 1 razors and sold them both. They shave very smooth and it is probably the best made razor along with the wolfman out there but they did not give me the most efficient shave. The Karve and a few other razors I own give me the smoothest and efficiency in a shave that I look for
