Subjectively, the polished finish does improve the shaving experience noticeably - the end result was a perfect BBS after the third pass; no buffing or clean up was needed. The polished top cap glides effortlessly and is much easier to clean after the shave. Little oxidation spots can easily be removed with a glass cleaning tissue when the razor is dry.

I am glad that I purchased the three base plates - they all shave well and could be used interchangeably depending on my mood and time availability.

The E-Plate is my favorite, especially after I polished it. It shaves fantastically and is on par with my MOST favorite razor - BlackBird First Gen.
The D-Plate is the one that I can use inebriated and remain uncut, while getting an extremely close shave.
The F-Plate is the most aggressive, but it is so smooth that I can still use it daily for 2-pass shaves (XTG and ATG) and get bloodless BBS shaves in a shorter time.

Cheers!

Any differences in smoothness between D E F baseplates? Thanks.

Yuri, I haven't used the E plate, but there's very little difference in smoothness, for me, switching between the D and F. Even with the more aggressive F plate, blade feel is very well suppressed.
