After looking at a lot of Instagram pictures and captions Chris does mention machining. I can't imagine taking on this venture without using CNC manufacturing.

Interesting, it could just be the resolution in the pictures but it doesn't look like a machined finish to me.  Caveat, I'm not an expert, I made the comment because the finish of the razor looked a lot like the finish on the Rockwell 6s.  Did he say it was bead blasted?  That might explain the finish.  If its machined then thats a great price.

This is a start up company and the razor's price is pre-order. This is what is called a lost leader. Basically he is breaking even or even losing some money in order to gain a foot hold in the market. Wolfman razors were a lot cheaper several years ago when they started.

A quick heads up to those who have been looking at this particular razor but have found the website to be a bit confusing in regards to the guards that are available and options in the drop down menus. I sent an email to Chris at Karve Shaving Co and this is what he replied:


Hey Gus,

I just modified the web store this morning. You should be able to select a complete razor by one of three handle lengths and one 5 guards (my razor is sold as a top cap, a guard, and a handle).

There are also additional guards for sale if you want to get more than one.

Let me know if there are any issues; I tested it on as many device as I could, but nothing matches real world testing.

I also emailed Chris, he stated "Everything on the razor is either CNC turned or milled."

He also mentioned that a polished version would be available in the future.

Rockwell calls their model 6 razors adjustable, so in that same sense, this can be considered an adjustable. However, when I hear the term “adjustable razor,” the first thing that comes to my mind is a razor that has a dial for adjusting settings on the fly.
(So I suppose it all just depends on how narrow or wide one’s definition of an adjustable is.)

I understand what you're saying, I have a slim and a Fatboy, keep them on 3 or 4. Might go higher just to see what it feels like. I really bought them just to have them.
To me the Rockwell would be a pain to adjust while shaving. Not knocking adjustables but to me I get the same shave with them as I do my nonadjustables.
After all this I will have to rest my 75 year old bones.

Earlier this year I bought the stainless steel Timeless as my "forever razor" but i gotta say - something about this Karve is really calling to me and the price seems very reasonable. Admittedly, I don't know much about brass so I'm just curious - Is there any reason a brass razor wouldn't last a lifetime?
