When I read accounts that are so wildly different from my own experience and even accounting for the YMMV factor, I wonder if there aren't a few lemon razors out there that have something just off in the geometry or something.  I know that its unlikely that someone trying a razor for the first time and having really crappy shaves with it will assume the razor is a lemon and go out and buy another one but it has been known to happen occasionally.  For me both the 102 and the x3 are really nice razors but I give the nod to the 102 but only by a whisker.  (Sorry, I couldn't resistSmile)  I'm glad that the x3 is working out for you.  If I were giving friendly advice to someone who was choosing between buying the 102 or the x3 and money was a factor, I'd recommend the x3 because (for me) it shaves very much like the 102 but is much cheaper - especially if you already have a suitable handle lying around.  If money wasn't a consideration, heck, why choose?  Buy bothBig Grin

I'm incredibly jealous of the people who can use whatever razor they want without any negative impact to their skin. for myself and a few unlucky folks like Hobbyist and probably you, we're stuck using specific razors that are forgiving on our sensitive skin.

Hear hear.

This is why I have been stuck with my 6s. I still go back to it no matter what.

Even the s1 that's well known to be a mild-ish? slant still gives me irritation if used for daily shaving.

I have the S2 and haven't used it in quite a while now. after I'm done testing with an alumigoose I was loaned, I'll probably give the S2 another go since I can't remember how my shaves are with it. if I don't like the shaves, I'll just sell it.

Are you in the middle of testing the Alumigoose? I found mine to be mild but too inefficient so I was forced to make more passes hence resulting in more irritation and razor bumps. It's here in my closet like brand new.. lol.

I would recommend the Rockwell 6s if you haven't yet and if you're looking for new razors to try. YMMV but it's really good in my experience. 6s on baseplate three with an Astra SP shaves like a dream.

I think I'm 6 shaves in. I like its light weight and the handle. not sure I'd pick one up though..it doesn't wow me anymore than my as-d2.

As-D2.. now that's another razor I need to try. I heard so much good things about it, I can't believe I still don't have one yet.

I'd sell my S1 and Alumigoose if I could.

I have the Blackbird on it's way to me, I'll let you know how it performs with my sensitive skin.

It was okay on my face, but the head was so wide I would get cuts on my face sometimes too. It destroyed my neck every time I used it but it did take the hair off. 2 weeks with the 102 and I could not get through a single shave without a few nicks minimum on my neck. However, the X3 is the complete opposite. It is almost as forgiving and smooth as the AS-D2, and just as efficient. I still prefer to use the AS-D2 for my ATG pass on my neck but the X3 will do just fine as long as I take it easy. Most of the time I shave the first pass with the X3 the remainder with the AS-D2. I tried several blades to include Kai, Vokshod, Platinum LUX, Polsilver SI, and Astra SP. My favorite is Astra SP followed by Polsilver and Platinum Lux.

I might have to check one out.  the 102 doesn't seem to do it for me either.

I know what you mean. I feel the same way when people criticize the AS-D2 and say it won't cut their hair. I have a thick beard and the AS-D2 cuts right through it even with 3 days growth. It's not a matter of lemons, it's simply the fact that people have different types of skin and facial hair. What's smooth for one may be aggressive for another.

Yeah, the AS-D1 was really the first stainless steel razor to make a splash on the forums. I still own one and an AS-D2. The AS-D2 is better. I got into this 25 years ago because my growth is like a Greek or a Turk.

Wolfman, Blackbird, Weber (great razor) ATT, Stealth, whatever. The latest Feather with a sharp blade shaves as well or better than any of them.

The Japanese, thank God, are humble.

The AS-D1 was my first high end razor and I still own and use it regularly. I don't know what guys are talking about when they say it doesn't cut. I get a near BBS in 2 trouble free passes. It looks as good as the day I bought it too.

The makers of the Feather razor have never publicly called me a Moron either....at least not that I've seen.

Exactly Bruce. I don't get it. Razors shave. Feather is as good as any out there today.
