No improvement on this face with or without the beard--- I’ll let it be. Smile

Intent-to-shave is everyday but sometimes I skip a day here and there.

I shave almost every day, but usually at night. I don't need to for work or anything, I just enjoy my shaves!

The first time I shaved, I think I went about 4 days or so before I shaved again, and that time I moved to 3 passes from 2 the first time. Then I went about 2 days to try and keep the stubble tamed. However this time I also did a 3 pass shave and ended up with razor burn and a few bumps which give me a few nicks. Even after I used the alum with cold water, it burned my face like crazy, but did not leave my face red. The next day at work, it felt like my face was on fire, and I had a few bumps, but no redness. Is that normal?

Either way, I think I've narrowed it down to shaving every 3 or 4 days to cut down on sensitivity and razor burn.

Any similar experiences and thoughts?

I shave daily, but being new to wet shaving I found it necessary to unlearn what I thought I knew about shaving.
First of all, you're not shaving your face...you're shaving HAIR off your face. Then again...you're not even doing that. You're allowing the razor BLADE to remove hair from your face by GENTLY guiding the razor.

"GENTLY" means applying little (if any) pressure to the razor. You're simply GUIDING the razor as you ALLOW the blade to do what it's designed to do. We use multiple passes because it's unlikely all facial hair will be removed with one pass. So, if you're applying pressure to the razor through multiple passes, you wind up shaving (the skin off) your face instead of just removing hair.

Secondly, don't take that 3 pass rule too literally. You may not need 3 passes...you may need 2.

Or 5.

It's YOUR face. Take your time and learn what's best for YOU.

Lather is good, but you may get better protection using other lubricants. Or using multiple products. I use Creamo Cream as a base to my lather on the second pass. On my 3rd pass I use shaving oil exclusively. And I go over my face as much as it takes to remove the hard, SHORT of irritating my face.

It just ongoing practice. You'll get incrementally better with each shave. Just remember to take your time and ALLOW your razor to do the work.
