I think one thing that really helped me in my shave journey was the realization that if I skipped at least one day, I could use whatever razor I wanted - but if I'm shaving daily I need to use something fairly mild. That is, to get a close shave with zero irritation, which is my goal.

So: these days I shave daily, 3 passes followed up with some touch ups on the neck if I feel inclined, using a mildish razor (Shavecraft, PAA double open comb, or something similar).

If I skip a day for some reason, then I break out my iKon slant or an adjustable cranked up a bit.  Because I can Smile

Excellent point!

I could never use an Ikon or muhle R41 everyday, but if I leave my face alone for 2 days, they are fair game.  My daily drivers are very mild (futur set on 3 or my ATT R2).

I'm pretty much the opposite.  My face is far more sensitive and needs the extra day of rest.

The first time I shaved, I think I went about 4 days or so before I shaved again, and that time I moved to 3 passes from 2 the first time. Then I went about 2 days to try and keep the stubble tamed. However this time I also did a 3 pass shave and ended up with razor burn and a few bumps which give me a few nicks. Even after I used the alum with cold water, it burned my face like crazy, but did not leave my face red. The next day at work, it felt like my face was on fire, and I had a few bumps, but no redness. Is that normal?

Either way, I think I've narrowed it down to shaving every 3 or 4 days to cut down on sensitivity and razor burn.

Any similar experiences and thoughts?

I used to go several days because of this reason when i first got started but over time you get your razor and lather routine down to an art and the irritation stops. So then i wanted to start shaving everyday but Saturday and so I would do only one pass then the next day two passes. To my surprise my face enjoyed this and i never did get irritated in those first two weeks so then i moved on to three passes with no problems. For the record I do have very sensitive skin which is why i started wet shaving and i never thought i would ever be able to shave every other day much less every day.

I only skip one day a week, usually, and that's because my other half and I generally have that day off work together. It takes a bit of time to do a three pass shave plus my head. I've gotten to the point where I feel weird without having gotten my daily shave ritual in so even on those days I try to wake up early to shave....

I started wet shaving several years ago due to money being tight. I had a "chix" that I picked up from a antique shop for $2. I started out with 3 pass shaves due to a heavy shadow that I have. I got good shaves with some irritation. I was not using shave soap yet cause I couldn't afford a brush and some descent soap, so the goop in a can had to do. I worked up to shaving every day with three passes. And my face thanks me for it now that I can afford better equipment and soaps.
This was what I had to do to look presentable and I enjoyed it immensely before I knew it was a thing. My wife thought I was a weirdo for enjoying cutting my face. I'm so thankful that I am not alone in this.

Everyday.

Twice a day.

The thing is, I believe wet shaving has become a bit of an obsession. For years (I'm 58) I've suffered from dry, flaky skin. Nothing but Aquaphor seemed to help, but my face would look greasy most days. Graduated to wet shaving through trial and error. Purchased an adjustable safety razor and learned how to "brush and lather". Well, besides a close shave, my complexion has never been better.

But now I can't stand even the slightest bit of peach fuzz on my face. I find myself going over and over my face desperately searching for each and every hair. I'll only stop when I begin to feel irritation. I've recently finessed my technique so that facial irritation no longer occurs, but I'm still aware of how obsessive I've become.

Every other day. Roughly.

I use an SE razor and get quite the close shave that lasts for awhile. I shave this morning and won't need to shave until the next afternoon.
I get a better shave doing that instead of everyday. After the shave some Dickinsons witch hazel and than some A/S.

Every day - three passes. Before wet shaving I was skipping the shaves on Saturdays unless we had some activity to attend.

After a ten day backpacking trip I looked like I was ready for one of the History Channel mountain man shows. That and my wife doesn't like the scratchy beard so I keep it close.

I tend to shave every other day, or once every 3 days. It's not necessarily my skin that is easily irritated, but my thick, stubborn facial hair is very very difficult to plow through when its only one day of growth. By the second day after a shave, the longer length of the hair has decreased it's over-all strength and is easier to cut through.
Using a sharper blade does nothing for me on one day's growth. Over several years, I have learned this has been the best method of me.
