Shave n0.#6 with the both of these prototypes. And an amazingly efficient yet smooth shave. I skipped a day to get a bit more growth and see if I can get a full 3 pass shave in just to get more shave time in and just because I’ve been liking the shaves with these two very much. I have bad news in that regard as I failed to get a 3 pass shave with either one of them. A straight up 2 pass plus a buff on the chin and a clean up pass around Sir Adam. I brought in 2 fresh Dorco blades named appropriately Titans. Sharp, smooth, comfy and cheap these new blades from Dorco. Not a big fan of the Dorco brand but, these have been a pleasant surprise. Love the packaging and presentation of this steel. Used Shannon’s Lady Luck for the suds and not a single thing to complain about. Just smooth and easy passes with both of these well made razors. I will say that I confirmed my belief in that for me the 1.3 OC proved to be just a bit more smoother on my skin over the 1.3 SB. Not by much, but noticeable at least to me. Why? Don’t have the slightest idea. Perhaps it has to do with the open comb allowing a tad bit more of lather to remain and add to the OC versions ability to glide some. Or possibly the better polish finish adding to give less drag on the skin. Or, maybe the Earth’s tilt on it’s axis with the Moon’s gravitational pull on the tides in conjunction with the Magnetic Poles of our planet aligned everything right for me. Honestly, who the heck knows and who cares. All I want is a good, comfortable yet efficient feeling shave. And I think that’s what the far majority of de wet shavers look for as well. These two definitely do that. One more shave tomorrow morning and these will be cleaned, sanitized and be ready for the first gent on the pass around.....

In this case, the stove is short because we have already begun to design Hummingbirds. This is the next company model. It will be distinguished by a shortened head. Will come from 0.80-1.10-1.30 and 1.50 in the full set version
316 steel, Start geometry, but its more compact version. The handle will be different.

Interesting Hummingbirds are being designed.

I got the 2nd start razor back from the pass around Saturday afternoon. I'll be posting this one up as a raffle in a separate thread sometime on Sunday.

Shave no.#7 and the final one before going out on tour. Went back to the 1.3 sb today with the Dorco Titan Blade & Tabac. Silky smooth lather and wonderful 2 pass plus chin buff. Actually cleaned up the Sir Adam area (my toughest spot to finish) extremely well. I did give myself the slightest of irritation on the chin but, that was more due to my over zealous action of achieving a glass smooth finish than the action of the razor itself. Silly me but, I’m a chaser of skin smoothness. And at times I’m at fault of trading and achieving the skin tight smoothness for the smallest bit of discomfort. The START 1.3 plate though gives excellent feedback and a direct feel in letting you know what it’s doing and how it’s doing it. Superb shave, period.

In conclusion and to summarize my shaves with the 1.3 prototypes is quite simple. It’s a fantastic shave in either configuration. Blade feel is deceptively amped up but, not unbearable or intolerable in feel. It’s the complete opposite in my estimation. Truthfully and realistically it’s in the razors design and shave geometry that makes them so good. Achieving a greater feel in cutting efficiency while at the same time maintaining near equal smoothness to its previous plate designs is no small feat. HomelikeShaving is putting in some serious thought and work in trying to achieve the best of two mediums, smooth and efficient. And honestly, that type of ground has only been achieved by a select few modern razor designer/makers today. Form and function is what these razors bring to the table and at a price point that the average Joe can actually afford and be proud to own. There’s a plate and size for every face and beard regardless of how many times a week one might shave. It’s an impressive razor with an equally impressive shave system of plate sizes and caps to adjust your shave accordingly. Do I have any caveats? Yes, I do. One and perhaps is the most important factor is its feel. That being the handle itself. It feels good but, with some knurling on it I feel the tactile grip would be greatly improved taking out all doubt of slipping or falling from ones hands. Let’s face it and speak some truths here. Not everyone is safety conscious and there are some shavers out there that, to put it nicely are just complete klutzes or accident prone. Added grip would most certainly help in this aspect. And honestly, mistakes will happen with the best of us regardless of care or technique. For those that just seem to get into a predicament during their shave more times than not, you shouldn’t be shaving. Think the Old Shaolin Monk Buddhist Master and grow the hair. You’ll be better off. Fu-Manchu it brother...

In the end, would I buy either or? Yes, in a heartbeat. I actually prefer the open comb version as somehow it felt smoother and gentler on my face. Not by much but, it was noticeable. I’ve cleaned these two razors up and sanitized them. They are ready and boxed waiting to be shipped to the first recipient.

Happy shaves my wet shaving brothers....

The START razor prototypes have been mailed out to the first participant on the list. The gentleman has been contacted and tracking info has been provided to monitor the package through its travel if desired.

Very quickly, I just want to state a couple of things for this limited pass around. I’m grateful and fortunate that Homelikeshaving has allowed us to sample their potential new offerings in the near future with these experimental razors. Also, I give a big thanks to Gopneg for making some of the necessary arrangements to make this possible during our correspondence.

I’ve hosted a couple of pass arounds before on another forum so, I’m no stranger to the process and what it entails. I’ll post a few simple rules/guidelines for those participating to follow. It won’t be extensive and will be to the point.

1. These razors are prototypes. As far as I know these are the only 1.3 baseplates available in the States. Therefore, it is expected that each participating member insures the razors for the amount of $200 and shipped priority and also to save those Postal shipping receipts in the case that the razors are lost during shipment or just fall off the grid. At least we can make payment to HomelikeShaving because we pretty much bought them. I believe that’s a fair amount and consider it the “fee” for participation.
2. Please try to keep your stay with the razors for 7 days. I believe that gives ample time for one to get 4-5 shaves in and get a decent idea of their performance and one’s overall thoughts on the experience.
3. Make sure to get in contact with the participant that follows you on the list and request mailing info so that the package can be delivered to an address where someone can receive it whether it be residence or work location.
4. If you need to drop out of the list or be moved down for whatever reason it may be, please notify me or post here in this thread so that adjustments can be made. Common sense is all that is required to keep things running smoothly without much interruption.

Just enjoy the shaves Gents. Post to your hearts content as pics would be appreciated but, not a necessity. Looking forward to the write ups to come. I’ll be waiting with a cup of coffee or a nice bourbon in hand...

There are a few more spots available. If interested, just copy and paste the section below and add yourself to the list. 10 will be the max so, it will be a small limited number and run for this pass around.
