High-end or nothing?

No, but that nikos criticized something considered sacrosanct by some folks guaranteed there would be an explosion.  Although not certain, the likely outcome was that he would be banned during the ensuing brouhaha.

I don't know why people get so bent about this kind of thing.  I made an innocent statement that was misconstrued/misinterpreted or whatever.

It wasn't just your post, however it was intended or perceived.  "Wetshaving elitism" has been an issue on many forums for years.  An elephant in the room so to speak.  It has resulted in posts much more fiery than anything nikos posted here, not that it justified his personal attacks.  He misconstrued your statement and allowed himself to be triggered.  That was own fault, but this isn't really about stainless steel razors, any one poster, or any particular product or price point.  It is about intolerance of dissent.  Not by you, Marko, or the forum management, but overall.

I like the pictures of stuff nicely presented - I'm impressed by the quality of the photography not the price of the gear.  I don't really care if its a Merkur an EJ or a Wolfman and I'm interested in variety of soap makers as well as the amazing artistry in some of the brush handles and I love the vintage stuff.  Whats wrong with that?

Nothing at all.  In fact, there is a lot that is right with it.  Hopefully, some of it will be affordable by the average Joe and Jane.  The problem is that plenty of folks feel differently and are not afraid to engage in high-end or nothing shaving snobbery.  When they are dismissive of, or cast aspersions on, the shaving gear or small collections of the hoi polloi, wetshaving class warfare is bound to ensue.

Nikos brought up an important question, though.  High end or nothing?  Very large collections of gear or nothing?  A very material-focused offshoot of traditional wetshaving or nothing?  Elitism and infighting or camaraderie?  Most importantly, intolerance, shaving canon, my-way-or-the-highway or mainstream traditional wetshaving?  Does everybody have a seat at the table or just the chosen few?

unfortunately you don't see what goes on behind the scenes or how many times someone has been sent a PM to tell them to relax...also, nikos.a got very childish and tried to rage quit by soft deleting all of his threads/posts and then deleted all of the text from the first post of all of his threads. all of his soft deleted threads/posts have been restored and in due time, I'll also correct all of the text he deleted from his first posts...

we try to give the members of DFS some extra forum functionality that is usually disabled on most forums unless you're a mod or admin, like soft deleting your own threads. unfortunately we usually have to end of restricting such functionality because people can't help them self....if people continue to abuse the soft delete feature, we'll simply remove it for everyone, plain and simple. I have way, way, way, way better things to do with my time than restoring threads and posts because someone is acting childish.

BTW - Thanks mucho for setting up and administering the preschool. I know someone who set up one of his own, and running it seemed like a big chore.

And it isn't about anybody getting their "widdle feelings hurt" as you say, its about keeping the forum a functional, respectful place that a large diversity of people feel comfortable spending time at in discussion or argument or just observation.  Who wants to see people engaging in infantile, ego wars?  And if I had feelings, they certainly wouldn't be hurt by anything said here. I can like a post because I agree with the gist of the thought(s) expressed without necessarily agreeing with every aspect of it - he likes the pictures.  So do I so I like his post.  I've posted on DFS for almost 5 years if you go and review every post I've ever made I'm sure you'll find inconsistencies and maybe the odd stupid remark.  Excuse me for that.  These forums are meant for people who enjoy wet shaving to discuss related matters and maybe buy/sell stuff.  Its not a court of law and Robert's Rules of Order don't apply so pointing out inconsistencies in posts or comments is for what purpose?

Be careful about what posts you like though. You could catch a ban for it.
