I don't know why people get so bent about this kind of thing.  I made an innocent statement that was misconstrued/misinterpreted or whatever.  I chose not to engage in what I thought was pettiness.  DFS has very few rules but one of them is that we treat each other with respect and moderators are deserving of the same respect that any member is.  The actions of the OP would have got him the same penalty if he'd treated any member the way he treated the moderators.  Baiting, trolling, passive aggressive, whatever you want to call it, there's a line between having fun and being offensive.  Sometimes its clear and sometimes it not and we have to use our judgment in the interest of maintaining the integrity of the forum.

That said, I have shaving gear that is inexpensive (most of it) and I have some that is moderately expensive (very little).  The Wolfman razor I have cost about $200 Canadian when I got it in 2015 but I wouldn't pay today's price for it, although I have no problem with people who do pay those prices, their money their choice.  My daily shaver is a Rockwell and I favour Semogue boar brushes - cheap?.  If I go to a car show I can tell you, I'm not spending any time looking at Kias or Hyundais no matter how shiny they might be.  I'm looking at the exotic stuff because I'm dreaming.  I do not look down on people who drive Kias or Hyundias.  I drive a 6 year old Ford.  I don't look at the SOTD top judge people's gear, I want to see all the nice stuff.  If you look at my "like" history on the SOTD I like virtually everything. If I haven't liked it its because I got behind and chose not to go back several pages to look and like past SOTDs not because I somehow judged a post unworthy of my like.  I even read and like the SOTD posts that have no photo and I imagine what the stuff looks like.  I like the pictures of stuff nicely presented - I'm impressed by the quality of the photography not the price of the gear.  I don't really care if its a Merkur an EJ or a Wolfman and I'm interested in variety of soap makers as well as the amazing artistry in some of the brush handles and I love the vintage stuff.  Whats wrong with that?  Can we stop being offended and just appreciate the SOTDs in the spirit their were intended?

Agree with Marko. I seems that Being Offended has become a sport.

For sure!

Another thing. A couple of pages ago, he almost begged you to ban him and he even explained the reasons why he wanted this. I doubt it was a penalty you decided based on whatever critiria you have.

I lurk and sometimes contribute on The Shave Nook and the same member uploaded a thread some days ago asking the Administration Team to deactivate his account there too. He probably sent a similar personal message to the Administration team here. I'd lay money on this. This led me to believe that it was his choice as well, and he was 100% honest when he told that a ban meant nothing to him and there would be no change in his life. He made his point when he mentioned that forums are not like they were used to be. I also happen to believe this.

I for one appreciate honesty and I'm leaning toward him in this occasion. Thanks.

I can like a post because I agree with the gist of the thought(s) expressed without necessarily agreeing with every aspect of it - he likes the pictures.  So do I so I like his post.  I've posted on DFS for almost 5 years if you go and review every post I've ever made I'm sure you'll find inconsistencies and maybe the odd stupid remark.  Excuse me for that.  These forums are meant for people who enjoy wet shaving to discuss related matters and maybe buy/sell stuff.  Its not a court of law and Robert's Rules of Order don't apply so pointing out inconsistencies in posts or comments is for what purpose?

He criticized overpriced stuff and got banned for slaughtering sacred cows.  One must not criticize the stainless god, young Jedi.  I did not agree with everything he said, or the way he said it, but he was right about the razor elitism.  Banning him was an overreaction, is likely to do more  harm than good IMHO.  I think refuting disputed points with words would have worked better than the ban hammer.

I still think a Viking's Blade Chieftain is way cooler and looks better than any stainless razor.

we don't ban people for simply criticizing shaving items.....

I know Primo, thanks for the reminder - I'm generally very impressed with the quality of the discussion and opinions expressed on DFS.  Its tended to be an excellent group but no forum is immune to the occasional eruption of silliness.  We're all human after all.

Thanks to the mod team for encouraging, and rarely enforcing when necessary, proper behavior among gentlemen.

I have no idea why it seems to bother some people that I don’t have the same taste in shaving hardware/software that they do - but apparently it does. Wet shaving as most of us practice it here on DFS is a hobby, and hobbies are many times a kind of activity that’s taken beyond basic function for enjoyment. Use what you like and don’t take differing opinions as a slight. Variety is the spice of life. I absolutely enjoy seeing and discussing what others are using and like or dislike, even if I have no intention of following their path. I may change my mind and do so in the future, so a healthy discussion is a good thing. Maybe I will post a differing opinion, but my differing opinion doesn’t mean that I do not respect the choices of other gentlemen.

Cheers, Steve
