I'll give your boss a call Dave. No promises. He's a bit "Old School" though. Don't believe he is ok with three day weekends.

Thanks Ken but it didn't go well. I guess it's like the kid getting picked on in school and the parent has a talk with the teacher and things are made worse. Boss is making me come in earlier..........

Test shave report, Clauss razor.  A little background. This is Tim's MilkCrate razor. It appeared to have had the factory bevel. Which was in fact not capable of cutting hair even at skin level. On the plus side. As with any quality American made straight. The steel has a nice ring to it. The grind is top notch and it lays flat on the hone. It's centered in it's scales and is appropriately snug through it's range of motion.
I spent plenty of time through each stage of the honing process until it passed my usual visual inspection. And HHT tests. But as we all know the real test is actually putting it to use.
Now a vain person may be tempted to always report only positive results. Alas I can not in good conscious say that this razor is GTG. I did use it to complete my first pass. But used my Korrat 14 2.0 for my second pass. The shave with the Clauss was ok. But a little tuggy. With the heel being not set. It will not leave my possession until these shortcomings are remedied.
To do so would bring shame on Clan Fluffy. And possibly cause the spirits of the Shogun masters to shun me. I will revisit my slab of novaculite with the Clauss.
And report back the results.
Hope all of you are ready for Friday.

You have a great way with words, mixing the humor with the facts, and producing an entertaining AND informative post. Well done! And right below the surface, one sees the skilled practitioner. I really like that!

Round two with the Clauss Razor vs. translucent Arkansas hone. This outing was a much better affair. The razor did much better this go round.
I put it at 90% of its full potential. Most folks would say it’s good enough. But not old Fluffy. That ten percent is the difference between a good shave and a great shave. And my buddy Tim deserves great shaves.

Clauss Razor
B&M Nordost Soap
Yaqui Badger Brush
Master Barber Topaz Aftershave

I can now report that the Clauss razor is at the level of sharpness that I am happy with.
So it will be cleaned up and headed back home to Tim fairly soon.
It’s always enjoyable to take a razor from unusable. To the best I can make it be.
Hope you are all ready for the week.

This is somewhat belated because I've been out of town, but I am with Eric on this one.  No matter how hard you may try to deny or downplay it, you are an excellent writer (and or course, an excellent honemeister too!).  --  Thx for the read.

Budget priced items can make for a high end experience. Which is good for me. “Cause I’m so broke. I can’t afford to pay attention. “

ISome other views from today’s work area.

The mill sits right at the edge of the Susquehanna River. With what used to be the canal between it and the river.
The closest bridge is I-95 Tydings bridge. The next down stream is a railroad bridge. The third is Rt. 40 Pulaski Hwy. The  River view is looking down the boat launch. The town of Havre De Grace is on the other side of the bridges. The structures you see on the right shore below the bridges is a large stone quarry that carves into the side of the river bank to get at the granite. Barges with hundreds of thousands of tons of rocks and gravel are floated down into the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay every year.
