I have yet to tank the plunge. I cannot afford a Feather but the CJB seems affordable. Thank you for this informative post.

I've read that the CJB is a good alternative. Just go slow, use no pressure, and start with small flat areas of your face. Move on to larger areas only when you feel comfortable. And remember, you will likely endure some nicks and weepers. Stick with it if you like it and you'll find, after a month, that you're enjoying it and getting great bloodfree shaves.

Anyone who "flames" a razor that's working for someone else deserves to have their opinion ignored for being ignorant. If the Artist Club is working great for you, allow me to congratulate you for finding something that works for you. Many people you years without finding something that ever works for them

I agree. Shaving is one of those things where you have to do what you like. I'm aghast when people thoroughly denounce a product just because it didn't work for them. If a guy loves the shave he gets using the ragged edge of a lid from a can of baked beans, I'm all for it. Doubt I'd try it, but I'd be happy for him. Truth be told, in some respects the Artist Club is more difficult to use than a DE. It's just so damned much fun. And does give me a great shave, with blades that seem to last me about twenty shaves each.

Hoorah. Anyone who condemns another for posting what works best for them should post on a different forum. They're the ones who'd get flamed here. If you want to slam someone do it elsewhere, let it go, or better yet shut the hell up. Let's have fun with it. It's just shaving

It's a good alternative. My opinion, wait. The Feather does have a rounded edge and provides a great shave. Just my opinion sir

I borrowed a Feather AC DX from my friend and thought it was a lot of fun! It gave absoulutely superb shaves and I like the way that it DEMANDS good technique but rewards it so handsomely.
Due to the beautiful design, excellence of manufacture and those amazing blades, it must be the ultimate shavette.

I really do think it's a misconception to see shavettes as a gateway to straights though... they are a very different shaving option which just has the handle type in common, and are much much more demanding.

Once you can get a consistently good shave with a shavette then R41 and straights are a walk in the park - if there was a shaving technique bootcamp, everyone would have to shave with Feather AC for the first month as basic training!

I guess the only reason that I haven't tried the Feather is what draws many to it. I enjoy honing my blade. Creating the edge and shaving with it is very rewarding. Now that I'm over $700 deep into stones for honing, I'm saving all kinds of money too!! (Roll eyes)

I agree. I started with a straight, switched to the Feather, and when I went back to the straight it was a cinch. Like going from a stick shift to an automatic.

Thanks guys! Now that I've read this thread, I am interested in finding out whether the Kai version of the shavette (I forget what they call it) is as good as the Feather seems to be. (I haven't yet tried it as of now.) I do love the Mongoose, and now I've got to try to locate a pack of the Kamisori blades for it.
Best Regards,

I shaved for the second time with my Feather AC SS straight handle today. The first time was last week and I got in a hurry and had quite the bloodletting. This week I took my time and had an excellent shave. I only did a WTG pass today and cleaned up a little with my Leresche #51. I will keep practicing and think this razor has earned a permanent place in my rotation. Who knows, I might graduate to a real straight someday
