I have yet to tank the plunge. I cannot afford a Feather but the CJB seems affordable. Thank you for this informative post.

Due to the beautiful design, excellence of manufacture and those amazing blades, it must be the ultimate shavette.
I really do think it's a misconception to see shavettes as a gateway to straights though... they are a very different shaving option which just has the handle type in common, and are much much more demanding.
Once you can get a consistently good shave with a shavette then R41 and straights are a walk in the park - if there was a shaving technique bootcamp, everyone would have to shave with Feather AC for the first month as basic training!
