Experience with the Viking Blade?

Today marks day one of my wet shaving journey. I recieved the Godfather by Viking Blade in the mail. I used the included razor that came with it and, despite a couple nicks, i like it. I expected to nip myself a couple times especially since im used to the cartridge style razors that self adjust to your face. Im curious about other peoples experience with Viking Blade brand safety razors.

Im not sure. I ordered it from amazon. It was at a good price point imo. Plus, it had mostly great reviews and it came with blades so i figured it would be a nice start. Im located in the USA. I like it thus far.

Here's my $0.02 on the vendor and his products. Decent razors, but they're actually generic PRC-made imports that can be obtained from several other sources for a fraction of Vikings Blade's asking price. The vendor will claim he has patents/patents pending, but offers no proof when asked, and a search of the U.S. Patent Office yields nothing.

The travel case/mirror is a nice touch, but it's also standard with the Chinese Baili, which is what this razor is. The "Swedish" (Chinese?) blades that ship with the razor suck. The VB shaving cream is okay, but it's over-priced and it doesn't last long.

Most of the reviews on Amazon were solicited by the vendor and are obviously over the top in their effusive praise; hence, take them with several grains of salt. Don't fall for the marketing machismo and bogus claims.

The inventor belongs to the Vullion Group. The trademark owners of Vikings blade I believe. So all those theories on reddit about no patents is false as it turns out.

That would in fact support the claims that Baili cloned Vikings Blade original design.

When a patent is first filed, it will be published to the public usually 18 months after the file date. If the normal process is followed it can take 2 to 4 years to get a patent in Granted state.

The underside of the baseplate has “Vullion” stamped on it.

Interesting. After reading your post, I checked the Fakespot rating for the Godfather razor Amazon reviews. They get a B rating, which is quite good. The analysis also revealed that Amazon altered and removed 43 reviews. That is a relatively high number, and suggests something fishy is going on review-wise.

Does anybody know from experience how the two razors shave compared to one another?

The only thing protected by these patents is the "overall shape and surface pattern" of the handles (not the head or tto mechanism). I'm not sure this is terribly important to the success of Baili razors , I think the handles are butt ugly myself and swap them out on my three piece Baili razors., Were it to become a legal matter Baili could easily modify the knurling and tweak the shape to avoid any issues at all. I don't think it would lose them any sales.

The Chieftain is much heavier than the Baili, the cheiftan has an anti misalignment mechanism..m

I don’t know why people get all freaked out about VB. They make a Quality product and the shave is awesome, and that really counts.

Reviews are subjectve, and you can go to most artisan sites and everything there are like 5 stars.

All I care about is that is shaves well. The razorock DE 1 and Tech 2 are rebranded baili, and why don’t people freak out and cry fowl for rebrands??? It’s all noise.

BUY SOMETHING BECAUSE YOU LIKE IT

I own the crusader and it’s as smooth as my slim adjustable for me. They are releasing their new TTO Adjustable soon.

I think VB are the best modern TTO razors. For me Parker’s are poorer quality....and that my own opinion.

I have yet to try the Rockwell model T and the Janus Toggle. But those razors are over $100.

And if 43 reviews are suspect from 3843...that’s 1.1%. Small number in my book.

Enjoy shaving products you like. I watch shave videos on YouTube because I like their personalities and get to see a razor in action, if the reviewer doesn’t like it then it doesn’t mean I won’t.

Like with MdC, everyone cries fowl that it’s the most expensive when in fact it’s the cheapest per shave soap because you don’t need much to create a lather.

Buy it because you like it! If VB chieftain is not with a budget, then save up or get a cheaper clone.
