I don’t know why people get all freaked out about VB. They make a Quality product and the shave is awesome, and that really counts.

Reviews are subjectve, and you can go to most artisan sites and everything there are like 5 stars.

All I care about is that is shaves well. The razorock DE 1 and Tech 2 are rebranded baili, and why don’t people freak out and cry fowl for rebrands??? It’s all noise.

But I wouldn’t criticize VB either. If I had a choice between the baili bd179 and the chieftain, for me the chieftain hands down, overpriced or not. Lol.

I also own the Baili 179 from RazoRock and it’s a great razor as well, although it’s light in weight.

Reviews on vendor sites are often five stars overall, as they are marketing tools.  Vendors sites generally do not post reviews that are anything less than five stars, with the very occasional three or four star review thrown in to make things look legit.

I own the crusader and it’s as smooth as my slim adjustable for me. They are releasing their new TTO Adjustable soon.

Wow, that is good!  The Gillette Slim is a great razor, high quality and delivers excellent shaves.

I think VB are the best modern TTO razors. For me Parker’s are poorer quality....and that my own opinion.

A lot of people share your opinion of Parker razors.  Their primary market, India, is very cost sensitive.  It is no surprise that Parker would focus on hitting the low price points.    Howie at Super Safety Razors worked with Parker to address these issues, as Western markets demand good quality.  It seems to have worked, as the newer Parker models have garnered much praise.  This is especially true for the Variant adjustable, reviewed by no less than Mantic59.

I have yet to try the Rockwell model T and the Janus Toggle. But those razors are over $100.

You are right, and for some people it won't make sense to spend $119 for a Model T adjustable.  Razors that shave very well can be found in the $25 - $30 range and sometimes even less.  There are lots of razors receiving widespread praise that sell for $60 or less.

I was surprised to see a toggle razor introduced.  Gillette abandoned the toggle mechanism in favor of the TTO way back in the day.  They must have done that for a good reason.

And if 43 reviews are suspect from 3843...that’s 1.1%. Small number in my book.

That isn't 43 reviews that are suspect, it is 43 reviews that were deleted by Amazon for being fake.  That is a lot.  Most items don't have any deleted reviews, and the ones that do are being shilled.

Buy it because you like it! If VB chieftain is not with a budget, then save up or get a cheaper clone.

I have both Baili and chieftain and for me the chieftain is smoother. But the Baili shaves well too so I don’t discourage anyone who wants the Baili.

I like the chieftains build quality a bit more and I like the extra weight of the chieftain. Again it’s all personal, my friend is the opposite and he likes the Baili more and that’s cool.

Sorry I misread the amazon stuff, so yes 43 deleted is not good.

I like good value for the money as well, yes I do agree that the chieftain is overpriced, I think that 25 USD should be it’s price range. But I do find they make the better TTO razors until someone else comes along.

I noticed that the price for the Chieftain was dropped by $6.00 on Amazon. Vikings Blade will almost certainly continue to adjust their pricing to whatever the market will bear. With threads like this one, people can get a better idea of what differentiates VB razors from others, and decide what premium, if any, they are willing to pay. Of course, price adjustments can go either way. The $35 Merkur 34C I bought years ago now sells for $40 on Amazon. The equally good Edwin Jagger DE89L, which also cost $35, can now be had for $28. It's all good, as long as the people buying all these razors are informed buyers and happy with their purchases.

The point of my rant wasn’t really about price per say, but more about that Baili were the ones that cloned their design and how in reddit and B&B all these theories coming out that VB were losers, that it’s bailie razor. Etc....Before anybody derails a company, we should hear all the facts.

I mean there are merkur 34 c type clones and the same for Edwin Jagger for much less. The RazoRock mentor is $16, for an Edwin Jagger Clone, does that mean that merkur and Edwin’s Jagger are a complete rip off? To some maybe.

The point I am making is that Clones from China will always come to market for far less and super cheap. So I guess when an artisan makes a razor wait for the China clone to come out later?

I sold my merkur because it had lousy blade alignment for a razor that isn’t cheap. I don’t have any merkurs because for me there are much better options.

Is anybody going to buy a merkur future now that ming shi sells it for less? I guess the merkur is a rip off.

I buy clones too and I get what you pay for.

I come to shave forums to get informed on razor performance. I decide if it’s worth the price for me.

Anyways all this to say that VB do have a patent claim , which in my opinion if VB are claiming that then they should post it as I did, and Baili did release a statement claiming VB design was original.
