Info:
I’ve decided to post up some info on a few things that come up in conversations with my customers and inquiring emails, texts, DM’s and PM’s I get.
This topic is about the new S Base. As many know when I first got started in this soap making business all the shave soaps which I now have named the S base or Standard base were on the soft side. Some more than others but all soft enough to scoop out the soap easily. There were a lot of jar lathers who would either message me or in their reviews on how they are jar lathers and wish the soap was firmer. Well as most know I came out with the new F Base which is quite a bit firmer than the original standard base. So now in case anyone doesn’t know there is a new S Base and it’s definitely firmer than the original and although not quite as firm as the F Base which specifically was developed for jar latherers the new S Base was developed for both!
It’s easy to scoop out a bit of if you like to bowl lather but it can easily be lathered right out of the jar and unlike a croap your brush isn’t going to pick up gob’s of soap. Just use it as normal but there’s a couple of things that I recommend that you do and don’t do. One thing is I don’t recommend blooming the S Base. It’s not necessary with this base. The second thing I recommend and this is a personal choice but I look at this way is we cure soaps to remove moisture so adding a lot of water into the jar kind of goes against that. What I do recommend and I do it with any shave soap not just mine is I turn the jar upside down so the soap is facing the sink below. I then take my brush and swirl around and load my brush until I’ve got enough soap loaded. Of course depending on what soap I’m using sometimes I start out with just a damp brush and sometimes a wet brush that I’ve given a few shakes to. Also like any soap I use I let them dry out for 24 hours after each use so I highly recommend doing that to any soap.
So as of right now the only 2 Soaps that are in the new S Base are the Succes and the Lavender Supreme, but a couple of more are on their way. They are the latest and firmest S Base soaps and also to make things easier all the 4 bases I’m going to be offering with the addition of the new Tallow Shave Creme have the base marked on the side label. So if you pick up an ETHOS shave soap on the BST or from one of my vendors just know that if it’s not coded on the side label it’s an older formula.
I think one of the main purposes of this post is to reassure all the out of the jar lathers don’t be afraid to pick up one of the new S Base soaps because you think you won’t be able to jar lather as normal and in fact I’d say it’s firmer than some other soaps I’ve tried lately so I feel very confident in this base satisfying both types of users.
Had to get that out there as it’s been bugging me that people still think that anything other than the F Base is soft like the original ones were.
In fact as a good example. I’m doing a collaboration with The Razor Company that will be exclusively sold on Jason’s website and we did a test batch of 35 jars using the travel size to see how his customers reacted to it and it sold out very quickly and Jason really liked it a lot and thought it was the F Base when in fact it was the new S Base. He was surprised and gave me the go ahead to start production of the full size shave soaps
I told him I’d post a photo on here as we are looking at this Shave soap, Skin Food Splash and Bath Soaps he wanted will be ready in about 2 weeks or so.
Thank you all and great shaves!
