Honestly…don’t know what the term “clarifying” brings to the party. Doesn’t really communicate anything.

"Clarifying" is the term used for a shampoo that removes build-up.  A fair number of times, I've seen folks talk about how to clean a shaving brush you can or should use a "clarifying shampoo", so, at least to me as a lay person in this regard, it helps set the cleaner in that product range.

I think that Lesser describes it perfectly and the only other words that convey the message I’ve seen used is either Deep Clean or Detox and I think I like Clarifying better as many people know the name in regards to shampoos.

UPDATE:

So I wanted to share this.  Soon ETHOS will have 3 bases offered. So to make it easier for my customers and my vendors to identify what soap base they are purchasing or in regards to vendors what soap base the vendors selling ( had some advice from Jason at The Razor Company)  each soap base will be displayed on the side or on the bottom label with code that tells what base the soap is. I wanted to keep it simple for everyone so I’m using a single letter in a circle on the product.

F - Is for the new Firm Base which I was going to call hard but when I think of hard I think triple milled so to me the word Firm describes the next step down in a soaps.

M - Stands for Moderately firm which is and will be my current base with a couple modifications that will not effect the performance and may even increase slickness if anything. So for those that have the Clean Shave soap which is the firmest of all the soaps I’ve made up till now all the new batches will be a bit harder than that. Hard enough to Lather from the jar but easy to scoop out if your a bowl lather person.

C - Is pretty simple as it indicates that what’s in the jar is a Shaving Cream. As I’ve mentioned I’ll be releasing a new Vegan Shave  Cream in the near future.

Also a note: Not all scents will be offered in all 3 or in some case even 2 and it’s all depends on the Aroma blend and how it holds up under high temperatures.

So these sample labels are just an example of what the code will look like and where it’s placed. We just used 3 current labels to showcase the code so don’t look at ingredients as each base will list different ingredients. These were also blown up to show the code.

Great shaves all.

I’m also assuming that if you can jar load from the M your caveats about jar loading will no longer apply…

And…..which base(s) will nuage de citrons be in?

And typo alert….”Hard enough to Laos from the jar…”

So in regards to loading from a jar as opposed to bowl lathering . I’ll always prefer as a soap maker that people scoop and bowl lather for reasons I’ve explained before in different posts but with that said I know the reality that more people load right from the jar so by making my current base a little firmer than the Clean Shave soap is now then all the M base soaps can be used either way.

As far as the Nuage de Citron goes I’m leaning more towards the F base because, one I can get it made and available faster as the warm weather approaches and I think it’s going to be a good summer scent. Also there is so many Top notes in the scent I even considered the Shave cream. In fact because I’ve gotten a bunch of requests I’m also doing a lime aroma blend I’m calling Fresco which is going into the Italia Collection.

Thanks for pointing out the typo. I got a new phone and I’m trying to get used to it and it likes to fill in words. Not always what I want.

Dragonsbeard I’d love the Citron in a cream. When P&G bought Art of Shaving they totally destroyed their Lemon…my favorite cream…with a horrible reformation. And then eventually discontinued it. I’m sure you would formulate a very worthy successor….as you did with Peppermint.
Lime aroma? I’m so in for that! Love that one in a cream too!
Speaking of which…any thought to blending kaffir and key lime into your lime blend?
Also…have you totally dismissed some form of tallow as an ingredient in your creams?

frenchy

So I’ve thought about doing the Nuage de Citron in both the new Firm base and the Shaving  Cream. As I mentioned some scents I’ll offer in more than one base.  The Fresco also fits that profile to since it’s got a lot of citrus in it. To answer your question about a tallow based cream it is something similar to another base I’ve been toying with that would offer one more base but that’s a ways off as I just started playing with it. One hint it would be coded B but for now the Vegen cream is a lot closer to release.

I was also a fan of the early AOS shave creams and still have the Lemon, Sandalwood, Lavender and unscented in my den. A shame they changed the base.
