Have you given any more thought to the possibility of a bay / bay rum inspired scent? I know you were but the whole bay oil shortage thing happened. I haven't forgotten.Smile

I think that would be an outstanding pairing. Many great whiskey drinks aren't complete without a cherry in there, so it sounds great to me. Plus there are some citrus notes in Bon Vivant, so I think it's a good one. I also know a lot of people have enjoyed Adagio and Colbeck this summer. So I guess it pairs well with any alcohol-drink-inspired aftershave, haha.

As far as the bay scent, I have thought about it, but then I had other ideas pop up. I could perhaps do a custom scent, however.

At the moment I just wrapped a winter seasonal called Unconditional Surrender, inspired by Ulysses S. Grant. It features amber, tonka bean, cedarwood and agarwood, with cigar tobacco, amyris, vetiver, black tea, jasmine and geranium supporting it. I liked it enough that I decided to make it a winter seasonal rather than just a limited edition.

Then I also have been kicking around an idea that was inspired by a cedar forest in the winter when the air has that sweet smell it can get when it's really cold and humid, but there is no wind. I love that smell, plus the way that snow muffles all sounds so it's just insanely quiet is one of my favorite things. Basically, what I'm saying is I love snow. Maybe not the kind of snow you guys get up there, but I still love it. My friends and coworkers really get sick of my snow enthusiasm during winter.

Wow, you have been busy. I'm looking forward to Unconditional Surrender, it sounds great. Do you think it will go over in the South? Will it be in both Toner and Aftershave? Available in Canada? When?

The idea of a custom bay Rum is intriguing but I have a thing about trying to direct genius - I'd just want you to do what you do. Maybe we could take a show of hands of how many DFS members would buy a CL Bay Rum type aftershave and if there were enough you could do a LE?? How many bottles is a normal run?

I know what you mean about the muffled quiet of snow in the woods but winter here tends to be dry so we don't get the humid snow thing you're describing - dry, dry, dry. Drier than a popcorn fart. Its dry.

I'll try adagio and Colbec too, that sounds good.

Most southerners I wouldn't think would be holding such grudges that they wouldn't get it. If so, then that's cool, but it seems like something that should be in the rearview mirror by now.

Probably in toner, aftershave and salve. Don't know about when, and the Canada thing is probably dependent on how well this latest shipment to MenEssentials sells. Supply for Canada is entirely dependent on demand from Canada.

As far as a LE goes, it's probably a lower minimum than you'd think.

And humidity is a signature of this area. A friend of mine calls the summertime air getting waterboarded by St. Louis.

Are you thinking of doing an L&L soap for Gratiot League Square? That's my favorite winter aftershave.

L&L already has a soap called Cuir et Epices that is leather and spice. Since GLS is fairly similar, it would be pretty redundant to put it in one of his soaps.

Waterboarded by St. Louis! Thats hilarious. I'm not a humidity person, I just can't take it. Its probably a consequence of growing up and living in a very dry place. The downside of dry is dry chapped skin, especially hands and lips. I have a tube of lip balm in every coat pocket that I own so I always have it when I need it. Nothing worse than split, bleeding lips. I love the smell of lip balm in the morning...

What is the process for doing a custom LE? Would I gauge interest and then you do a pre-order thing like B&M does then you make it and ship it? It would have to be a toner so that it could ship outside USA. It would be a bummer to organize a LE/custom and then not be able to get anySad

I know that you were thinking about a bay scent a while back and if you had some idea of a scent description/blend even before we solicited interest it might help being able to give people an idea to pique their interest. There were pirates on the Mississippi weren't there?

What's needed for you, Marko, is for hawns to make lip balms in your favorite Chatillion Lux scents. Tongue

Because there would be no alcohol in them there would be no problem shipping to our friends in Canada. Winking

That would be great but then I'd have to worry about clashing my lip balm scent with my aftershave!! Or just get them in all scentsSmile

Marko That would pretty much be it. I can probably spend next week thinking about what the scent profile would be. It would probably be rum-free and not as heavy on the spices, since I'm more of a fan of the bay than the rest of it. I had thought about doing one with tea or something in place of the rum, sort of a teetotaller's bay rum, but haven't really gotten too deep into it yet.

Next week I transition from working every waking second to being (relatively) bored at work. Should be plenty of time to daydream about scents next week. I'll definitely do that...just don't tell my boss. Actually, who cares, do tell him. I'd say I will have earned it after being worked like a rented mule these past few weeks. And also, because I think they're having me do a custom lotion for our clients this christmas. So if they're blurring the lines, then i'm happy to take advantage of that Wink

Shawn, I don't know how you do it but I'm glad you do itSmile Take your time and dream on.... what would a Mississippi riverboat pirate/gambler have smelled like? I mean when they were trying to smell good not the rest of the time which I'm sure nobody would want to smell like by choice. I'll put together a solicitation of interest message later today and see what folks think.

Thanks for taking the time to consider this project, I think its going to be great.
