Guys in general will probably respond like people are responding here.

All of my favorite beers, bourbon, and scotch companies include the words "Please Drink Responsibly"

Good post Tbone I haven't been to most of those links you posted but I've been a big fan of Art of Manliness for several years. Thats an example of someone (Brett McKay) who is interested in helping men be better men no matter your age or stage in life. I listen to the podcast regularly and I've learned a lot from it. Brett does this without giving anyone the impression that anyone is toxic or bad for society but rather providing the support to learn and be better if thats what we choose. There is advice on dress and deportment for young guys starting out in their careers. I think he even has an article on making your own Bay Rum aftershave and on that alone he's OK in my book Happy2 I'm going to check out those other links to see what I can learn from them. Thanks.

Then why didn't Gillette simply say "Please shave responsibly"?

Thats what I mean! "please drink responsibly" just has a better tone than "don't be an ass" Its the carrot vs the stick. In my experience growing up and as a parent, its been my observation that people just react so much better to the carrot. Its the difference between "you can be a better person" and "stop being an awful person". The person at the ad agency who produced the ad apparently has a long history of hard core left wing ads. She was clearly more interested in the stick than the carrot and the fact that Gillette chose that agency and that producer among countless others indicates that Gillette feels the same way.

As has been stated, I suspect Gillette wanted people to start talking about Gillette, the brand. Mission accomplished.

Yet you allowed your bias to blatantly burst through as you allowed the Liberal post to stand whose firearm related remarks have nothing to do with the topic at hand. BS moderation completely & totally biased by deleting a courteous response from the other side. Rolleyes

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

I may have missed the post you describe, though I've been following this thread closely. I do recall a post objecting to guns being injected into the thread, a post I agree with as this thread has nothing to do with guns. There are plenty of threads out there about guns.

I’d like to remind you that it was your post, #17, that first brought the subject of guns into this discussion with your mention of a revolution and “musketry”. Your firearm related remark was allowed to remain yet you feel slighted somehow? My how worked up people are getting over a simple advertisement that you can choose not to watch. Clearly there are underlying issues that people have with others, society and probably themselves that is driving such divisive talk. I prefer to look forward to my next shave, likely with a vintage Gillette razor and some Gillette blades. And I’ll look forward to talking about it with each and every one of you, even those who might consider me liberal, because in the end we are all after the same thing. A comfortable life and a close shave.
