No you don't. They aren't nearly as good as the modern PPI version is.

BPman I like your stir the pot style Sir, always have.  It’s my opinion the Blue SS are silky smooth and sharp.  I can’t say they’re “like” this blade or that blade but what I can offer is I wish I could get my hands on another box.  I picked them up at a shop in Greece, they had just made their way in by way of Turkey before that whole thing went belly in the country south of there this summer

It’s true what you said, Astra SP are a good blade, very sharp and mild.  Better than the SS, subjective for sure.  For “ME” the SS are sharper which is peculiar because I thought the Platinum “miracle” coating of the SP were supposed to smoooth things out. The Astra SP is a fantastic blade, almost as sharp as a FEATHER, after you wear that coating down in a shave or two.  Astra SP like Voskhod is a fantastic blade on shave 2 and 3.  After 3 it’s garbage, but again, YMMV.  The SS straight out of the pack MADE IN CZECH Facility gives me a better result.  Unfortunately that CZECH Ship like the WARSAW ship, sailed long ago

One thing is 100% certain….. different people using the exact same same blade will get different results

Who makes a better blade regardless of brand? MOSCOW or PETERSBURG Facility?

I’m very jealous you Gents here on the forum.  You guys have been able to experience blades made at their respective facilities in the past 20 years and now many (the blades) seem to be farmed out of the same couple facilities.  If an Israeli Red was “Made in Israel” and is now made in the PPI facility, is it really an “Israeli Red?”  Is the honing of the blade exact spec?

The Men here on the forum are VERY passionate about their brands, I’m trying to experience shave gear the way it used to be and the way it is today. There is ALWAYS a better blade out there……the search will continue

Below are a couple visuals with the authors opinions within the last 5 years.  I would like to try a few of these

Cheers

ExtraProtein , nice summation of the blade thing, regardless of blade! So many changes to countries, economies, and the blades. the best I hope for is keeping some blades that work for me! Israeli Reds are my go to, but I have yet to try the "new" German(?) ones. I should order some new ones, compare, and if horrified, scour the interweb for the Originals!! Although I may not buy 1000s like a certain Dave in KY  Tongue

Rob ExtraProtein was kind enough to send a couple tucks of Astra Superior blades out to me. I had my first shave with one yesterday... color me impressed!

I'm a big fan of the Astra SP and the Superior seemed smoother right out of the gate. Almost like a more premium version of the SP. I'll need more shaves with it to see how the next shaves are and how long it lasts... but shave #1 was very favorable. To the point I'd like to immediately buy some.

Does anyone know where these can be ordered? (is there a legit dealer out there?)

Thanks again Rob... really appreciate it man.

PS. What was that soap sample you sent me? I need to order whatever that is too! Wink
