My restraint is automatic and self-adjusting, especially in these days of supply-chain breakdown. I keep a rotating wish list at a few sites, and only make a purchase when I can actually get each item, AND the cart total gets me free shipping.

The gimmick is that there's almost always one or two items that are currently out of stock. When I finally get the notification that an item is back in stock, then typically something else has become unavailable, so it could take months before I actually place an order.

This also gives me the opportunity to ditch an item in which I have lost interest, and substitute something with a higher priority.
I applaud you John, you have much better restraint than I do. I tend to jump on purchases on a whim. Perhaps a restraint isn't the answer, but I really do go a bit too far.

As I've already broken my sabatical for January, but I'm just going to work on curbing the itchy trigger finger.

Restraint is a virtue that we all should strive for.  But I'm not too good with virtues these days!

Anyway, if you really want to try this, here are some sure fire steps to help you slow things down...

  • Let your spouse review all of your credit card statements
  • Give your spouse the responsibility of getting the mail and packages
  • Reveal all of your special hiding places for shaving stuff
  • Go through your current shaving software inventory and write down (for each item) how many shaves you can get out of each of them.  Add it up.  You won't believe that number.  Might make you feel a bit selfish

On second thought, maybe just enjoy the hobby and look forward to that thrill when you get new stuff.  Just be reasonable if you can.

This looks like 4 out of the 12 steps in a shaving acquisition disorder recovery program.

My two Stirling orders have arrived, and I can say with full (almost) confidence that I am THROUGH purchasing (this month for sure).

I'm still in the running - anybody else?  I'm tempted because I want to get the B&M Taiga in omnibus from top of the chain.  Its supposed to be stocked until end of February so I reckon I'll wait until February and buy it.  If it sells out before that then it wasn't meant to be.  Out of my hands.

Wow. What a haul! I see a bar soap sample. Have you tried their bar soaps? They're real good and reasonably priced!

I have had to use unscented Dove for years for sensitive skin. It is actually quite surprising I have not reacted to shaving soaps. Anyway, I tried one of the bath soaps months ago and enjoyed it. Due to cold weather/dry skin, I will not risk changing my bath soap until things warm up.

I really can't wait to smell like a "Witchy Woman" though Smile
