2022 DFR (Damn Fine Restraint)

I bought 3 EDPs from PAA yesterday - for me that was a spree. Space Nog, Kiritimati and I Gingerbread Man.  I'm now done. 

 I'm going to try to apply this shaving gear restraint to all areas of my non-essential consumption.  Its been somewhat bothersome lately that "buying stuff" has morphed from an activity engaged in to acquire necessities to an acitivity engaged in as an end in itself.  I think theres an evolutionary driver at play in driving us to acquire and stockpile stuff - we are descended mostly from hunter gatherers and were still doing it.  I'm not sure our forebears were any better than us in that they didn't spend a ton of money acquiring stuff but rather they had fewer resources and less opportunity.  A lot of the barriers have been removed - the silicon valley types refers to barriers as friction and they seek to write apps, programs or whatever that are frictionless - like buying shaving gear - search, find, click, buy.  Boom done.  No friction.  Now you have a ton of stuff 

Well, iGingerbread man sounds like a necessity to me. Lol. The reviews have been outstanding for that scent. I don't use scented aftershave, but if I did, I'd likely be right there with you.

That's an interesting thought on excessive gathering. It brings up another worry... transposing one purchase spree for another. Not that I have another hobby, persey, but I could easily invent one if I'm not mindful.

I was thinking the exact same thing - what good is it if I cut back on shaving related spending if I just jack spending in some other discretionary category??

"I'll be starting slow, promising to not buy any shave gear for the very long and painful time of January," wrote mrdoug at the beginning of this thread. What incredible determination, steel-like resolve, and ironclad commitment! With this kind of leadership, all I can say is "I'm in!" 

But 2021 taught me that whole month without ordering more soap or another razor is well beyond my grasp. Still, I just might be able to make it through today without hitting the PayPal button. And maybe I can get through tomorrow.

Last year, my first year in gentlemanly shaving, was quite a spree for me. In late summer my wife needed to use calamine lotion and looked in our cabinet. Not finding it, she called out in frustration, "Is there anything in this cabinet besides shaving things?"

Good thing she didn't look under my side of the sink or in that one dresser drawer.

OK. I admit, it was a wake up call.

My final order arrived yesterday. I have no badger hair brush, and I couldn't go through a whole year without one, right? I can quit purchasing any time I want. I'll start tomorrow. Did anyone else see that 60% off all titanium razors at Discount Shaving Man's Warehouse?
