A lot of people pair the as-d2 with feather blade. However with other razors I have heard people say that they only get about 2 shaves out of their feathers before the sharpness deteriorates. Is this the case when pairing the feather blade with the as-d2, for those that use blades longer than a single shave at least?

I will generally go 4 or 5 days with the feather blade in the AS-D2. Right now I'm 3 shaves on a feather blade in the ikon Shave Craft #102 Slant and I'm trying to see if it will go 5. The shaves on the slant with the feather have been wonderful. It's a bit of an eye opener for me - when I started with the DE razors a few years back I had an EJ DE-89 and my blade sampling led me me to the conclusion that the feather blades weren't ideal in that razor. I eventually got an AS-D2 and found that it had an affinity for the feather blade (duh). I then went with the assumption that the feather blade for me only worked in the AS-D2 until last week when I put into the 102. Now I'm going to try it in my other razors too. Hopefully I get more than 2 days on a blade.

I used to change it after two shaves, but now I can go three to four. I have a thick beard that grows fast, so this is only when shaving every day, which is the norm for me. If you want longevity in a blade that is just as sharp and every bit as smooth, then opt for the more expensive Kai blades. I usually go 5 shaves on a Kai, but they cost twice as much so it's not really cheaper. I have a hard time noticing any difference between the two blades in the AS-D2. However, in other razors that I can't use a Feather I can use a Kai.

if anyone wants to send me one to try for a week or two, I wouldn't pass on that opportunity!! just throwing it out there!

The AS-D2 gives me a great shave and with lots of comfort. I've only used it with Feather blades. I'll put the fourth shave on a Feather blade tomorrow morning. If I am not using the AS-D2, my back up is a 1973 Gillette Black Beauty short handle set on 3 or 4. I don't use my other three razors anymore and should probable sell or trade them _ Merkur 38C Barber-Pole handle, Merkur 23C long handle, and EJ DE87RC14bl Rubber Coated (Ivory).
I just got my third (sold the first 2) and used last night. Using a revised strategy that I've developed with more mild razors recently, I stuck with shorter buffing strokes (instead of longer single) and got a fantastic 3 pass shave (with Feather blade). My neck can't handle 3 passes with many other razors. With the Feather I can also be more aggressive on the 3rd pass and finish with a very close shave.
With this, and the other recent acquisitions, I don't intend to sell this razor again.

whoever has said that the as-d2 is a mild razor is 100% correct. I couldn't even feel the feather blade on my skin last night, but it was definitely cutting my whiskers once I got the angle where it needed to be.. I don't know if that's more attributable to Mike's slick lather or with how mild the razor is...
