I don't have a Yates but can tell you from the pics that the design won't allow it to clamp it at or near the edge...

Keith, you know that's most definitely an issue for me but this one is a GREAT shaver for me. I can only summize it's the bend given to the blade that works the magic to hold the blade well since it isn't close clamping to the edge.

If you notice the baseplate has up extensions that force the blade up to the center of the top cap

Dave, I'm the same way. And I know if you put a piece of metal/ blade in a torsion it will strengthen that, or should.
  I'll be giving it a try regardless, so I am trying to keep an open mind.

If you are concerned about blade chatter/movement, I don't believe you'll have an issue with this razor. 
I find the blade is held very firmly and the shaves are smooth and efficient.

I agree a great razor!
But I would like YatesPrecision to make a smaller head with blades tabs exposed.  Undecided
