I don't really care for guarded blades in the WR4 other than the Kai. Even the SoftGuards were scratchy. Just received a pack of Supers that I'll try in the next shave.

Guarded blades? Scratchy? Is a Schick proline guarded? That's the only blade I have used...I do have some Feathers. I used my .86 yesterday with the Proline and it was not good. I shave every 3-5 days and all of my shaves have been brutal on the first pass. Tugging and pulling hair. It does not want to wipe the skin clean, it is leaving a good bit of stubble. I am not used to this at all. A Sailor opened at 1 full rotation will remove all of that growth in 1 pass. Subsequent passes are just to clean up places where hair grows at odd angles. 2nd passes have been very good with the WR4 tho. Feels great when there is little work to be done. I do have trouble with the extra blade width on my chin, not sure why either.

I'm to the point where I'm ready to sell the razor. I will give a Feather a try before I give up on it totally.

No, Prolines are standard as are Supers. ProGuards, SoftGuards, Kai Protouch are guarded blades. Look at the ribbed part of the blade on my picture.

I've never tried removing so much beard with the WR4, 2 days at the most, so can't say why they might be the case. It's cutting the hair but less comfortable with the guarded blades. Prolines are the best really for me.

Also, maybe the blade format isn't right for you. The injector I used today is much narrower and better for the around the jaw and neck. Closer to a GEM blade experience.

Blade format just may not be for me.

Both injector and GEM blades are very close to the width of a DE, the GEM a shade wider. While I can get away with less swipes with the AC, I'm with LOOT in favouring the narrower blades. I like Artist Club shaves fine but have to use part of the blade for certain strokes. I love the rigidity of the GEM and Injector blades.

If it was me*, I would get .86 if I use Supers, .94 if I use Prolines/ Feather Pros … Regardless, wise choice. It is definitely worth the wait.

Thanks for the blade comparison. Those GEMs are meant for glass range scraping!

I am going to try a Feather in the 86, that should help. I guess I should know better than to give up on a razor after only trying one blade. No different than the DE platform, blades vary. The Proline could be my Shark.

I've got to give some thought to round facial features and a wide blade. Navogating the S to N pass across chin to lower lip is tricky but critical for me to get the lip clean.

I have the .86 SB and .77Oc. The Supers increase blade exposure and gives me that perfect blade feel. Feather Pros are okay too if I was a daily shaver, but I shave every other day. 

-Sailor settings 10 or 11, are the sweet spot for me. 

(For reference: Feather Supers blade exposure 1.45mm, Feather Pros 1.20mm)
