Wolfman Wr4 .86Sb Ti mini review (w/Proline)

My Wolfman outing went very well, in fact it went superb. It is very intuitive and has a touch of blade feel but it does feel safe. It feels very different than any other SE I used. Closest comparison is the Vector, but the Wr4 has less blade feel, but much higher efficiency. (.77 Oc I used last time had more blade feel, same efficiency, sweet spot for me) Visually, the head looks significantly bigger than the Vector but the Wr4 is just as maneuverable. I like the slope of the Wolfman and it’s the strongest feature of the razor. It pretty much gives you the angle like a Blackbird Ti would, imo. WTG, - mowes it down like nobody’s business, but does it in a smooth silent way. The Sb and Oc feel so much different from each other, it’s like having 2 different razors, worth it to get both, for me). .86 Sb Axg and Atg went trouble free, shaved like I shave with a DE. I must admit it is not intuitive going across the grain on your neck, you almost have to go at an 45 degree angle. Regardless, it is so smooth. Buffing is very easy as you can adjust easily. The handle has excellent grip. Finish is top quality, as I come to appreciate. Next shave will be with a Super on the .77 Oc. Maybe next I will add a .94 Sb Ti.  No nicks, weepers or any irritation. Just a splash of proraso and I’m good. (Downside -no joke, it took me like 4-5 minutes to put the blade on, it kept coming off as the tabs are very tiny, patience and keep an eye on on the blade, let ac blade drop & don’t catch it lol) Cheers Gents

I have no problem loading or removing blades in mine. Takes seconds. Much easier than with the Vector. Be careful LOOT!

I want to try a Super in my .60 OC/.70 SB before adding a review but here are a few quick impressions:

The open comb is very comfortable and smooth with the right blade. Titanium is a definite improvement over the aluminium tester. No chatter whatsover. I did get a little blade movement and skipping with the tester on a titanium handle. Not every shave but I noticed it. I want to try this razor in bronze or perhaps copper. I'm getting used to the lighter weight of titanium but think a heavier metal would be more to my taste. I've tried a number of different blades, switching out baseplates mid-shave, my favourites are Kai mild and guarded and Prolines so far which do fit the posts. Yes, it's more nimble than the WR3 but I've never had an issue with the GEM razor.

And no, it's not a replacement for the WR3. Not a chance. Actually I did a quick shave-off with the WR3 OC and the WR4 OC and think I prefer the GEM Wolfman. However, it's a totally different razor: bronze, different blade format, much heavier, oversized head etc. Or perhaps I simply prefer bronze over titanium. Or GEM blades over AC.

Prefer it over the Vector for sure.

More to follow.

Can you please compare WR4 0.70 SB to Paradigm SE? Thank you!

I will caveat this shave by noting I only use feather supers in these razors. Otherwise way too mild.

Two superb shavers. Full review tomorrow

A paradigm SE paired with a feather super is probably my favorite SE shaver. I really disliked it when I was trying to use regular SE blades with it as I found it too mild.

I had a similar experience with the .60 OC WR4 out the box. The super really makes these wonderful shavers by providing a little more exposure.

Side by side these two are equal in efficiency. The wr4 has more blade feel due to the open comb but I didn’t notice any additional effectiveness. I really think James needs to reconsider his “gap range” advertisement for this line. The .6 is a mild razor without the super.

My decision to pick one over the other is how much blade feel I’m in the mood for as it’s always a mood thing with me.

Grip easily goes to paradigm. 80 grams and good texture. My least favorite thing about the Wolfman is the Darwin handle.  It’s by far my least favorite Wolfman handle for ergonomics, while being my favorite for looks.

I might list it on the bst as I’m into aggressive razors only lately and it’s pretty redundant with my paradigm. Drakkant + ti, and colonial general are also on the chopping block.

.70 SB

I don't really care for guarded blades in the WR4 other than the Kai. Even the SoftGuards were scratchy. Just received a pack of Supers that I'll try in the next shave.

Many thanks cornbread Fedsbackhand

I think 0.70 SB looks good for my needs.
