I can't find the post but I could have sworn that it was said that we were going to have a pass around here of this razor. I know there's one taking place on the other side of the pond with it. Anyone here that can jog my memory and confirm that it at least was going to happen and maybe is not now? andrewjs18

WR3 0.60 SB v Micromatic (v1)
I did a quick side by side shave and the Wolfman is by no means inefficient but for me the Micromatic delivers a closer shave. I'm going to do a few alternative shaves to confirm as both the blade angle and the weight of each razor is pretty different. Wolfman wins for smoothness but is a safety bar. Micromatic wins for efficiency and agility.
Both had fresh blades. Two days of growth. Definitely need to try a milder OC next. That prototype 0.74 OC was right up there with the Micromatic but a little too aggressive for me without using a crazy light touch.

Once again, my time is over with the WR3. I've now tried 3 different plates for the WR3: 0.40, 0.60 and the aggressive 0.74 OC.
It's a very smooth GEM razor (even the OC prototype was smooth, just too much blade feel) - I like the Wolfman more than the Sabre - my favourite modern GEM. Unless Shane decides to release some OC plates. Once you get used to the size of the head it's no problem at all. I'd prefer something smaller like the Sabre or a vintage Micromatic but the Wolfman makes up for it with smoothness and excellent blade clamping. I really want to try a milder OC for comparison. The SB isn't the most efficient for me - the OC certainly was! YMMV. For me, the smallest gaps on the SB would be way too mild. The maxed out 0.60 SB really isn't aggressive feeling with a light touch.
Still haven't landed on the perfect gap but would 100% go for an open comb.
I should receive back my Sabre tomorrow, so will jump back to the L2 next week.

The razor :
My notes from only one shave :
So I love it, and will keep you posted from other feedback I might have.

Some information to help you understand my feedback :
- As you can see per my razor choices, I much prefer smooth ones (Sabre L2 is too efficient/aggressive for me)
- I’m still new to the hobby, so lacking experiences that most of you already have (I’m still seeing a constant improvement on my shaves month over month)
- I have very sensitive skin, and still can’t shave ATG without any irritation, but can easily reach to a DFS in 2 passes with all my other razors
- I own :
Sabre L1 & L2
TI H&S Z074
TI Henson medium
TI Vector
TI Paradigm SE
TI Timeless 0.68 SB
Feather WS-D2S
The razor :
- WR3 TI 0.25 SB with WRH1/WRH2 90 mm polished
- 75g
My notes from only one shave :
- Beautifully crafted
- Light and well balanced
- I could see myself using a 80mm handle with the WR3 without tilting the balance
- Loved the feeling of the WRH1/WRH2
- The blade clamping is strong, no chatter
- Loading the blade is not easy as the Sabre, same goes for fixing the head while screwing the handle
- The head look massive compared to the Sabre, but it’s not impairing the shave anyhow
- At 0.25 SB, the efficiency is on par to the Sabre L1, but substantially smoother
- It’s probably the smoothest razor I experienced
- It’s a first time I could comfortably finish my ATG pass (but the splash still stung me a little)
- Since the gap is so low, the angle window where it’s cutting is very small (I can see this being not appreciated from people who enjoy aggressive/efficient razor)
- I was surprised that the best angle was steeper than the Sabre (same conclusion from the WR2 compared to other razor : It shined even more when used with a steep angle (riding the bar instead of the cap)
So I love it, and will keep you posted from other feedback I might have.
Sincerely,
A
