Wolfman WR2 Head Discussion

I too would suggest basic. If you like a shiny razor go basic polished, if you prefer a more subdued look go basic matte (my preference)

Like Max I've got a number of premium high polished WRs that I've had for years with no micro scratches that are apparent to me. I just lost my preference for the premium finishes over time.

I see you've selected the WRA 2 ? Usually only used with a Darwin, and twice the price.

Another vote for basic. Looks great, scratches don't show as easily, and cheaper for the same shave. No brainer IMO unless you love mirror polishes and absolutely need one.

was the mirror finish. Now Im indifferent.

The Taiga guys did an outstanding job on my Limited Edition Ti model. As good if not better
than wolfmans mirror finish...I believe HLS may have used a jeweller, but don't quote me on it.

than wolfmans mirror finish...I believe HLS may have used a jeweller, but don't quote me on it.

A Wolfman Ti was my grail razor, and because of your posts I went with 1.35 SB. I wanted mine to look as close to the old satin finish on the SS razors and ordered it in 'brushed basic/matte'. Came out just as I had hoped. 

I had a 1.55 Ti in brushed and a 1.45 in satin and I have to say the satin was a really
superior finish to my eye. The one quality the satin has over the brushed is lustre.

I think he once said that the way satin is created is to do a mirror polish (or close) on the
razor and then dial it back...sounded harder to do than mirror if you ask me, and a lot more work.

James will do titanium in satin if you ask. It’s not the same as the original brushed titanium but as close as he offers currently.

Do you or anyone remember when James stopped offering a mirror polished Ti WR2? I know that when he made mine he said in a email it would be the last one he did and I'm trying to remember when that was and if he ever did offer it again between then and now. Just curious and I can't remember when I got mine. Been so busy, I can't even remember yesterday LOL

I don't know the answer to that. I remember reading a post, perhaps yours, where James told the customer that the Ti was so difficult to mirror polish that he'd never do another ... but subsequently ... IIRC he did offer mirror in Ti for awhile. Maybe LOOT, or Tester 28 might have some insight on that.

It's pricey, but you know your Wolfman razors well enough to now if you'll get the desired value out of it!

Mirror finish is great, but it's a PITA to maintain and ends up looking worse than anything else if it gets normal scratches from normal use. For that reason, anything I own that is mirror polished just sits in my dry cabinet and doesn't get use. This is where I think RazoRock is bizarrely superior ... their razors look good all the time.

As you'd know, Wolfman does a nice brushed matte finish. It's not as nice as the satin, but it's not far off, and if you're using it regularly, I don't think you'll mind.
