I already have a SS 1.65 but am on the waitlist for Ti. Thinking of doing a DC 1.75/1.55 SB. James, however, feels there isn't any significant difference between 1.75 and 1.65.

Apologies for the delayed response. I was going to run then side-by-side but I'm in a lazy spell and can't be bothered with shaving. So I'm going from memory, which isn't always the best. What I can safely say is for me, in the WR2 head, plotted on a graph, blade feel and efficiency are pretty linear as you go up. Any 2 adjacent gaps are kinda subtle, agreeing with James here. So, I would recommend jumping 2 gaps, just like you said for your Ti order. You should take one for the team and order a 185. I am fairly confident the head will remain smooth.

LOOT  Thanks for your reply. Since I also have the 2019 rocnel sailor, I was thinking more along the lines of DC 1.95SB/1.75SB ?

Wonder if James would even agree to making one for me..

Oooh a 195/175 would be pretty awesome.

If he has enough material on the guard, sure, I bet he would make it for you.

I am seriously considering a WR2 Shavette next, just because.

Your Timeless Ti 0.68--is it smooth bar or open comb? Are you able to compare the aggressiveness of the 0.68 to your WR2 0.75/0.85? To me, aggressiveness means bad technique leads to drama. I'm a daily shaver so efficiency is seldom a concern. However, I don't feel as well these days, so less aggressive razors are the current flavor.

Happy to help.

My Timeless Ti .68 is a solid bar. It feels more aggressive than the .75 and about as aggressive as a .85 to me. Both wolfman gaps are more efficient than the Timeless which to me means very comfortable shaves. with the wolfman I don't need to buff as much as the Timeless, and thus get less irritation. The timeless has a much more precise cutting angle whereas with the WR2 I can ride the bar, the cap, or right in between which I think is the intended way.

I think the smaller gap WR2s are really something special because they still cut very well and give BBS but they are super gentle. Just a guess that this happens because the geometry still allows for a fairly large gap. No other razor is really designed this way.

Lastly, I'd totally recommend getting 2 different gaps on the same razor because it almost gives you an adjustable. You can switch the side on passes (I like to switch to the lower gap on the final 2 passes) or if you need to shave more frequently than usual you can just use the lower gap side only to minimize irritation.

spatro -- thank you again! Your experience is particularly helpful for me. I anticipate ordering the exact same razor you did. This is most unexpected as I never thought I would purchase a mild, titanium, or split gap Wolfman. For me, irritation is never much of an issue, but a BBS ATG pass on the upper lip has consistently been difficult to master--a milder plate or adjustable setting is preferable.

I messaged Tara this week. They're unable to provide blade exposures on the 0.95 and below WR2 configurations, but she thought they were minimal. I got on the wait list May 16, and she said I should expect to order in 1-2 months. So lead time is currently 3-4 months and suggests market demand may have softened a bit.

great. you may want to keep the .75 for ATG on the upper lip and get something more aggressive on the other side. i personally think .85 is aggressive enough but am in the minority here.

One last question... For those that have the WRA1 (inkwell style) stand, any issues with the stand scratching the handle with repeated use? I'm considering ordering a stand on this go-around, and have always wondered if that would be a problem over time-- brushed titanium for WRH2 handle and stand. Thanks!

I recently was fortunate enough to acquire a wr2 razor with the 1.05 gap. While I am happy with the shaves I am getting, I find it is easier for me to get a bbs with a Blackland blackbird ti or ATT H1 or even R1. Don’t get me wrong, I get very smooth shaves with the wr2, perhaps too smooth. What happens is, I underestimate the efficiency of the razor based on the perceived lack of blade feel and end up over shaving. Which in turn gives me alum burn and minor irritation. I think with time I can learn to use this razor better.

I want to try the wr2 in the 1.55/1.45 gap and see if I like it better. Unfortunately, being new to the forum I can not participate in the BTS posts yet. So I will keep practicing with the 1.05 for now.

I've got stands for both WR-1, and WR-2 in SS and Ti. Some for many years and no scratches apparent to me ... with the naked eye ... I didn't use magnification, but that is overkill AFAIC  Smile

The reason the Ti Blackbird is more efficient is that it is more equivalent to a 1.25-1.35 gap WR2.
