While I am happy with the shaves I am getting, I find it is easier for me to get a bbs with a Blackland blackbird ti or ATT H1 or even R1. Don’t get me wrong, I get very smooth shaves with the wr2, perhaps too smooth. What happens is, I underestimate the efficiency of the razor based on the perceived lack of blade feel and end up over shaving. Which in turn gives me alum burn and minor irritation. I think with time I can learn to use this razor better.

I want to try the wr2 in the 1.55/1.45 gap and see if I like it better. Unfortunately, being new to the forum I can not participate in the BTS posts yet. So I will keep practicing with the 1.05 for now.

The reason the Ti Blackbird is more efficient is that it is more equivalent to a 1.25-1.35 gap WR2.
I'm not disputing what you're saying, I've got SS & Ti Birds, and 1.25 & 1.35 WR-2s .... but .... Shane has posted somewhere that the gap on the SS Blackbird is .58, which always mystified me, how it can be so effective. OTOH, I hear blade exposure is another component that determines the effectiveness, not just gap. Rocket science to me. I read about 'em, get 'em, try 'em. Some are better than others some of the time.  Rolleyes

I'm considering ordering a stand on this go-around, and have always wondered if that would be a problem over time-- brushed titanium for WRH2 handle and stand. Thanks!

I've got stands for both WR-1, and WR-2 in SS and Ti. Some for many years and no scratches apparent to me ... with the naked eye ... I didn't use magnification, but that is overkill AFAIC  Smile

Sounds like I’m probably overthinking it, like usual!  Big Grin

The numbers for the BB are interesting - I always assumed the blade exposure would be more

Thanks, great info. I think head geometry is also another important factor in how a razor shaves and feels to the face. For example, my timeless ti slim, although having a small gap and decent exposure feels very different than the blackbird. Looking at the numbers can only help so much. But head geometry, weight, head finish/smoothness, bar geometry all affect our perception- in my humble opinion. Trying one out really is the best way to know whether something works or not. To each his/her own really! Cheers!

Ok, so it's my turn to get my first ever Wolfman Razor.

I'm pretty firm on getting the WR2 1.25 + WRH2 + WRA2. However, I'm still 50/50 on the basic and premium mirror finish.

Does anyone have any comments?

I've probably read over 200 pages of forums and Reddit over like 20 different websites. I'm a little burnout, hope to get some quick and updated feedback.

Thanks in advance.

Great, efficient gap. Basic Wolfman polish is as good as any artisan polish with 1 or 2 exceptions ( H&S being one). The mirror is unparalleled. If it’s something you plan to use often I really don’t recommend the mirror as it picks up micro scratches easily. The 1.25 gap is a workhorse and something I imagine you will want to shave with often.

The basic polish if done by James is really good and most will tell you they can't notice a difference compared to the mirror finish. I have to disagree. But the mirror comes at a premium and it wont shave you any better compared to the basic finish. With that said I have had zero issues with scratches or other blemishes on the mirror finish. I just use a micro towel when I'm done and after years of use they all still look like new. If money or budget is an issue then just opt for the basic. If you want to spoil yourself and like the best finish James has to offer then I would not hesitate and order the mirror.

Thank you both, the polished finishes seem to be in line with everything I read since 1/2 years ago. I probably will stick to the basic finish, since this will be my first Wolfman, there are chances that this might not be my preferred gap; a premium finish might be an expensive mistake.

I would only do a premium finish if I was 100% certain I'd keep the razor.
Very hard to move premium finishes when basic does the same job for less
and still looks the business.
