I'd be willing to bet that JD isn't using some $6 product from Amazon to achieve the finish required to fetch his price point!! I'm sure you don't really think that either!!

There is no cheap or expensive way to oxidize metal. Only this product, or anything with ammonia to achieve it uniformly. The premium may come from any finishing prior to the controlled oxidation.

I’m glad I got my Wolfman razors when I did. They’re my 2 favorite razors, but the new price is more than I’m willing to pay. I’m sure there will still need plenty of people ready to buy one and the new pricing should help him keep up with demand.

Science time. How to force patina. This process is risk-free. Removing a patina is easy, and applying one is just slightly more steps. See below.

Before and after.

Here's what you need.

  1. Any piece of copper, brass, or bronze
  2. Flitz(or any brand) metal polish
  3. Brass ager (to force patina)
  4. glass or plastic container-not metal (to use with brass ager)
  5. Microfiber cloth
  6. gloves and goggles. Use them.
  7. alcohol- to clean off residue ( i used dish soap in this presentation for those in a crunch)
  8. Flower countertop pad- Not optional. This one features a wildflower, though other species may work
  9. 0000 steel wool ( for last step highlighting)

First get all that pesky patina off. Just some metal polish and elbow grease.

Now use the alcohol, or dish soap in this case, to get all the oils and polish residue off

Great. Time for a brass ager bath. I did not have enough solution for this large piece. Your razors are small enough to use in a small glass container. For this presentation I just diluted with solution with water.
YOu will want to save this solution one you're done. You can reuse it over and over

The following photos are taken at 1 minute increments with the final photo taken at 8 minutes. There's no science here. take your piece out when you like the shade. If you leave it it will eventually turn black.

Time to take it out and rinse it off. Remember to save the solution. You will see some imperfections with my piece. This is because I previously clear-coated this piece and I was too impatient to remove all of it for this demonstration. Take some steel wool and lightly rub the edges, corners, and less so on the other surfaces. It creates nice richness and depth to the material.
