I have a 1.45 WR-2 OC and for me the Muhle R-41 2013 is just as good if not better.
I also don't like personna platinum blades and have traded them for Lord Platinums which work much better for me.

Today I used Personna Red again - this time full shave with WR-2 1.55. I can kind of see what you mean. A little bit tuggy, a bit scrappy. I will use a Wizamet tomorrow.

Interesting discussion. I have two R41 2011s, and two R41 2013s. I haven't used a 2013 version for a couple of years, as the 2011 version gives me a closer shave. I have a WR1 .74 open comb, and a WR2 1.35 open comb. They are both as efficient as my 2011 R41, though quite a bit friendlier in terms of smoothness and tugging. I love my Wolfman razors, but I'm anything but a fan boy. The first generation Charcoal Goods Level 3 brass open comb is still top of my heap. And it's a heap.

Hi, Iamsms
On WR2 1.55 SB I tried Wizamet, Polsilver, Astra, Feather, Kai, Voskhod, Pers. Red, GSB and Sputnik.
Sputnik is the winner.

How interesting to read the posts about people's comparisons with the 2011 and 2013 Muhle R41 as well as the blades that people are trying to find most suitable in the WR2. I find this cool as I started a thread about BBS-1 blade exploration. Please correct me if I'm wrong but James did try to make something in relation to the BBS-1 when he designed the WR2. Many of you posting in here mention similar blade rankings and descriptions. I will update my other thread soon as I just had another shave with a Timor in my BBS-1 this morning on 10 days beard growth. This was the second time I have done a shave with this blade and it worked well.

I'm in favor of a razor with lots of efficiency but a slight compromise for some extra smoothness. I don't think the BBS-1 is nearly as aggressive as the Muhle R41 but they cut differently as have a different design. I like both but the BBS-1 seems to leave the skin on the smoother side rather than too close.

Quick mention of my current listing of blades purely considering good level of comfort and as much sharpness as my skin can tolerate for an against the grain first pass. I've been using this razor for 5 years now and I have a couple new favorite blades in it. Hopefully I can stock up on multiple blades but only on good prices in bulk.

Top Picks

Gillette Facet-Smoother and Milder Choice with good sharpness
Israeli Red Pack Persona-Noticeably sharper on my skin but have to really concentrate for maximum smoothness, can nick me good

Long time favorite for a smooth solid shave is a Voskhod. Polsilver Super Iridiums (newest made) are good too. I water to play with the Feather soon in the razor. I will keep up on this thread to see what people are shaving with. As said before me by someone, with this level of efficiency, I have sound similarity to wanting to avoid a 3 pass shave. Get the beard off is my major shaving goal in the first pass and then whatever the 2nd pass is going to be, I want to cut as easy as I can on the skin and try to pick up what hair is left. There will be guys that want and some that need a 3 or more pass shave with an aggressive/efficient razor like these mentioned. Do what you need in your shave and in my experience, try to keep as much skin as you can. Other than that, do your thing.

Great posts this discussion everyone. More photos haha

2nd use of a Wizamet this afternoon, with a 36 hour beard growth. I thought about shaving at 8PM last night, but feeling my face/neck, didn't feel like it was 'that' ready. I could have used a shave, but decided to give it another 12 hours.

So this WR2 1.55 just suits me down to the ground. I have reassured myself of it the past week. Tomorrow I may begin shaving with something else, just for the sake of variety. I've got other members of the herd being neglected.  Smile

JimmyH is that the 90mm WRH3 (non-hybrid) handle? I thought the bottom knob was longer (had a couple more of those ridged rings); maybe that is for the extra-long version?

Yes, that is the standard 90mm. I found the longer version to be a bit slippery due to the added length of the smooth part. This 90mm is perfect as is ... I may be crazy .. but I modified the longer WRH3 myself, precluding the possibility of selling or trading, but it works for me now  Smile

I for one would have no problem buying handle that you worked over like that, you did a good job but I just figured you'd want extra money for the custom job. I like it.

Do you remember the titanium 1.55 feeling any smoother than the SS version?
