I’m just curious as to what R41 you used in your side by side with the WR2 1.55? Reason I ask is yes I agree the WR2 is smoother but if you were using a 2013 R41 I find the 1.55 noticeably more efficient. If your referring to the 2011 R41 then that may be an efficiency match up. I’ve shaved with both separately but have yet to do a side by side comparison with them but I will be in the near future.
I used 2013 R41. Also, this was my first ever shave with WR-2 1.55. I compared both sides of my face after each of the 3 passes, I had a really hard time picking up a winner to be honest. I used the same blade - Personna Red. Now, after 6 hours, both sides of my face feels similar - still near BBS. I also had similar level of alum feedback (very little) after the shave. I will do side by side again once I am more familiar with WR-2 1.55. If my opinion changes, I will surely write here.

FWIW the efficiency of the R41 has been appraised by a few shavers and found to be in the
WR2 1.35 ballpark.
The closest razor I have found to a R41 - in terms of aggression and general disagreeability with my face -
is a SS Timeless 95.

I got BBS, and no damage, but it was not a comfortable shave. In the past I've found mild blades worked well in aggressive razors, but not in this 1.55.(03-10-2020, 05:54 AM)Dragonsbeard Wrote: @"iamsms"

Feather, Polisilver, and last night a Wizmet were smooth as silk.

I found the R-41 to be very efficient, but it was like walking on eggs. Mine has been in the cabinet gathering dust for years. I may take it out for a spin again. I've changed up to being a primary DE, sometimes SE shaver, and my technique with those instruments has improved considerably.
Oddly enough, I don't find a Timeless .95 particularly efficient, but it is smooth on my face.

I get it but try this on your next shave comparison. Use a Feather instead of the Persona Red as I don’t think you are getting the most out of the 1.55 with the Red. I’ve tried that blade more than a few times in various razors and I’m not crazy about it’s performance compared to a Feather or any of the 3 different Polsilvers I have. I realize our beards are all different but I can get a long lasting BBS out of a 1.55 in just 2 passes and there’s really no need for a 3rd pass. I agree with what one member mentioned that the 2013 would be better matched up with a 1.35 than a 1.55 where’s as the 2011 R41 which I find noticeably more efficient than the 2013 may match the 1.55 in efficiency but like I said I’ve not done that side by side so I’ll hold off on that statement but I will be in the Shave Off thread in the future.
On a side note. I’m not sure if he still feels the same way these days but James Dufour always recommended Feather blades for his razors and I agree with him.
Great shaves!

He recommended and tested his razors with Feather and Derby. That's because those are the ones he tried, he didn't find them through any scientific process or anything.
I will try Wizamet and Kai and maybe Feather - I like these blades. As I said, if my views change, I will comment.
While I am commenting, might as well reply to that Super market sushi comment - I have dined in quite a few Michelin star restaurants, sushi places where you need to make an appointment few months prior and I sometimes find the $2.5 tacos more flavorful than many of those places. Price isn't indicative of quality, not always. I have tried more luxury razors than most (not all) people commenting on this thread - still I prefer my 34C and vintage Red tip over all those.
I like James and his brand. Chatted with him quite a few times, in reddit, in reddit chatroom etc. I like his approach to razor designs as well - which is why I have 3 WR-2 now, bought and sold multiple WR-1s as well. But I don't automatically assume that a machinist who stumbled upon the idea of razor making in a random reddit thread will be better at designing razors than Gillette, Muhle, Merkur who has combined 100+ years of experience.
I am not saying Wolfman razors can't be favorite of anyone. I have friends who swear by wolfman razors, and I believe when they say WR-2 is the best razor they ever tried. But being surprised at the idea that a $30 Muhle can be as good as a $500 razor simple shows our gullibility related to equating price to performance.

I never got a good shave out of a Red in any razor that I tried. I PIFd them to a friend. My advice would be to pull out an Astra or GSB. Either of those, for me, are plenty sharp and very smooth. I'll use them on the larger gapped WR1 and WR2 heads primarily. Feathers are good in less efficient razors where the extra sharpness is appreciated but they can add a little harshness to the bigger gaps.
