Wolfman WR2 Head Discussion

True that but have strong preference for high polish. Just keep my different razors assembled as sets aligned low to higher gaps.

Properly the caps should also be engraved to my thinking to pair properly with engraved based for those possessing multiple gaps of same design

One possible solution to  keeping the look clean is to get them in different finishes.

That, an easily recognizable different finish, determined my final choice in the 1.55 WR2 SB I ordered yesterday. 

It was going to be my 'flagship' in Ti, but alas, no love from James on that request, nor on engraving the gap # on the baseplate.

So Basic Polished/Matte ... which I assume is equivalent to the finish on the short run of Guerrillas he did a few years ago, will be fine.

So far my favorite is the 1.25 WR2. Shaving with my kind friend's WR2 1.55 SB in titanium was awesome. But I had it a weekend, so only a few shaves.

Eventually I assume James will release Ti, and when he does I'll know for sure which gap to order the 'grail' razor in.

When I get it I will do just that. Meanwhile ... here is what brought me to my final decision. I think through these photos you'll easily see the comparison.

The WR1 DC .74 with Darwin handle in mirror, the WR2 ,center, in the $ added 'brushed polished', and the Guerrilla. The Guerrilla was James experiment with releasing a new design with a basic finish to make it more affordable.

I used a hand knurl on the handle, since I found the smooth surface slippery, but you can still see the color above/below the knurling, as well as on the top cap. 

I figure that with the Guerrilla at about $200 USD IIRC ... the basic polished/textured @ approximately $300 USD ought to be even better. 

One way or the other, when I look in my den, at 4 mirror polished, I'll be able to pick out the 1.55 easily 

I am on the waiting list...expecting a waiting time of approximately 8 months. I have been thinking about the market and how the resale might be affected down the line. I am not purchasing this razor with that intention, however, I can't help but think that market saturation, even with this high-end product, might affect prices should I, for whatever reason, be unhappy with my razor. Thoughts? I am also considering just keeping my eye out for one on the BST market. Might save some serious cash. This purchase is a mos def "want", rather than a need.

You wouldn't lose much, especially in the basic polish. Most people would buy on BST to save 8 months of waiting

What head, gap, options, etc are you going to choose? The higher gaps seem to be the more sought after and thus will be easier to sell if you decide to go that route.

But this also begs the question from me since my Wolfman are by far my best shavers, if you get the gap you want, why would you ever sell?

You can buy on the BST but you will pay a premium. You will pay $300 for a head + handle in basic finish direct from Wolfman. Most sellers are listing Wolfman's with a 200% markup. Hopefully resale prices will come down as more are made. Just curious since he is just making stainless steel - why not hire another machinist.

Because Canada is a huge "Red state" and it's like hiring someone down here in NY or CA, i.e., insanely expensive.

James is a perfectionist. I've worked with guys like him in the high end carpentry field years ago. They are so good at what they do that it is almost impossible for them to find help they are satisfied with. 

For me the used market for Wolfman is down to something I want badly that I cannot get from James directly. For those who don't have any, or they don't have the gap they want it is still an active pursuit. 

I think about the market if James ever stops making them !
