How do they compare ?

Is the Wolfman 'polished basic/textured as nice as the Charcoal Goods burnished ?

If it is I'm going with that finish and a 1.55 SB
That's what I did basic polish finish 1.55 SB
Somewhere in this thread ... who knows how far back ... someone got a basic polish and said it was far better than they expected, and posted pix. Looked mighty good. I was impressed with Charcoal's 'burnished' finish. Not close to James' mirror, but mighty nice.

I've got 4 Wolfman mirror, one brushed satin (extra $) and thought a bit of variety + being able to tell them apart at a glance if I get basic polished on this one. After awhile mirror gets boring  Rolleyes

I'm a bit confused about the burnished finish.  I've only noticed one finish and stainless steel charcoal Goods, but it wouldn't be the first thing I missed I'm sure it won't be the last.

I only recently bought a couple of SS CG razors. The website describes a 'burnished' finish, and I'm very pleased with it. So if you've seen one, I assume you've seen them all.  Smile

So you're saying that the Wolfman basic polished/textured is NOT as nice as the Charcoal goods burnished ?

Hahahahaha  I suppose opinions and tastes can vary...wildly...but doubt so wildly that anybody would rationally think anything regarding the machining and finish of CG can remotely compare to Wolfman.  Owned a couple of both razors; this is not intended as an insult.  The only razor remotely similar to the Wolfman in quality - and have never seen one in person but based on detailed photos - was the Raw Shaving razor.  Shame they didn't make it as they seemed to possess the same dedication to over the top quality as duFour - a rare quality in this era of neoliberal close enough, maximize profit and volume over all else live for today focus

Received my invoice today as well, and I thought I would have my gap choice finalized by now. In reality I am second guessing more than ever. Over the months since I submitted my order form on Sept 10th I have bounced between my original choice 1.25, 1.45 and 1.55 based on different reviews I have read. Right now I am thinking 1.45 but I keep second guessing every time I am about to hit send.

I shave daily right now I use the Timeless .95 but it is not quite as efficient as I would like. I experimented with 2 shims made from old blades, and it was better. I did not care for the CG Lvl2 for smoothness or efficiency, I enjoyed the Blackbird and should have kept it, but I moved it chasing the next thing. The Rocnel Elite 2018 was good but still lacked in efficiency for me. I have a Rex Ambassador, for smoothness I keep it on 4.5 but it doesn't match the efficiency I am looking for, I did not care for the shave on 6 and it will probably be gone when the WR2 arrives.
As a daily shaver I know the 1.25 will probably be fine, but keep thinking I will just always wonder if I should've gone higher.

Does anyone shave daily with the 1.45?
I know the answers are different for everybody, just curious what other people think, as this is my only source of info before purchasing my first Wolfman.

I know if I get the 1.45 and need a break I could throw the Timeless in to the rotation for a day or two, but I really want to get this right the first time.
Any input before I send my order is much appreciated.

Based on your remarks about other razors in your den I’d say your first guess at what you should get was probably the correct one. WR2 DC 1.25.1.45 with both sides being SB. With that said there’s not that much difference between a. 1.45 and 1.55 SB so you could go with that on the one side but for daily shaves I’d stay with the 1.25 SB

Just my 2 cents!

I’ve got Charcoal Goods razors in both shiny brass and antique brass, and Wolfman razors in matte (from four or five years ago) and basic shiny (from last fall). It’s apples and oranges, but I actually like the finish of the brass razors more than the stainless. Perhaps it’s because shiny silver is so prominent among razor makers, new and old.

I'm with Dragonsbeard on this one. Get a DC SB, 1.25/1.55. Best of both worlds. I'm going SB 1.55. Was going to do a DC with that gap, but I decided the SB is far enough.

Thanks for the replies. I hadn’t really considered a DC SB, but I guess it would cover both options.
