Wolfman WR2 Head Discussion

Thrown my order in the hopper some time ago.

May actually have a Wolfman someday, too.

The question is: what gap do I want, and although it’s not an easy question to answer, I could use some advice.

I like, and use, the Blackbird, GC Level 2, Timeless SB 0.68, Timeless Bronze SB, and  the Paradigm 17-4.

I want mild...but efficient, and a bit of blade feel is ok with me.

I don’t want to screw up a long-awaited opportunity, and I doubt I’ll own a stable of Wolfmans...so, dis be it.

Recommendations?

Go 1.25 WR2. If you end up finding it too much of a good thing it will be easy to trade for a lesser gap. If you get a lesser gap, and it doesn't work for you, harder to trade up ... IMHO. Additionally, I find the 1.25 SB is a great gap, and the 1.15 ain't bad in OC.

Invoice received and paid for. Now the wait for the 1.25 sb begins.

I asked JAMES about the Ti version and his response was:
The titanium orders are on hold for now, although I am getting a lot of requests for this. I will open a new separate list for titanium orders at some point next year.

I also thought about the 1.15/1.45 combo but to me the goal was to find the next level of aggression (hmmm interesting phrasing) beyond my timeless 95’s. If I want less aggressive I can always use my timeless 95 or 68 in ss or ti or carbon.

There is no 'aggression' from the Wr2, just pure efficiency....

I have to disagree,
There have never been more Used Wolfman razors available for sale at realistic prices than ever before,
Buyers now know they can simply get on the list and the order shall be fulfilled at retail price, not over inflated flipper prices.....

LMAO!! Good for you Starman! If you’re referring to me, I’ve certainly not screwed anyone out of a Wolfman and certainly not the Craftsman. Why you would say something like that is beyond me, but I’ve already seen you make some questionable statements about other people’s high end gear, so maybe it’s par for the course with you. Should I also consult with you regarding how many Watches or Fountain Pens I own? What I do with my time and money is my business don’t you think? I posted the pics of my Den to share with fellow enthusiasts, just as I enjoy seeing their Dens. I certainly don’t need your false accusations that I’m screwing anyone. I’m a member in good standing with this forum, and by far all of my interactions with the people here have been positive. Please take a look at my Feedback.

I don’t have an ‘in’ with Mr. Dufour and I don’t even have a page monitor. The only thing I’ve done is waste countless hours stalking the Wolfman site as well as had the help of a good Friend that would let me know if he caught the site open. Anyone else could do the same if they were willing to put the time and effort in. I’ve purchased every single one of my Wolfman Razors directly from Mr. Dufour. I’ve not supported the outrageous secondary market and people that are flipping their Razors for crazy prices. So I’ve not screwed the Craftsman either, but I’ve certainly got to be one of his best customers. I will be expecting a Christmas Card from Mr. Dufour this year.

I certainly don’t want an excellent Thread to be closed, especially one with so much valuable information in it. If you’ve got something you’d like to accuse me of going forward, please PM me and you and I can discuss it.

You seem to have a very similar shaving profile to mine.  Although, you didn’t mention how frequently you shave. I am a daily shaver and went with the WR2 1.15 SB. Just received it about a week ago, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. What I have found over the last couple of months is that the more my technique has improved, the less aggressive I need my razors to be in order to get a very close shave. For example, I’ve gone from using a Karve D plate and Timeless .95 on the reg, to now using Karve C and Timeless .68, and yet my shaves are getting even better. That said, the GC84 is still the GC for me. The .68 provides no more smoothness, yet a big drop-off in efficiency versus the .84, in my estimation.

With respect to the WR2, I am finding the 1.15 to have just the right amount of blade feel - I personally wouldn’t want any more blade feel - and a perfect combination of smoothness and efficiency. The vaunted “sweet spot”, dare I say. A couple of months ago I might have needed a 1.25 or even higher to get the shaves I’m now getting with my 1.15. I don’t know if that makes any sense, but that’s where I come down on WR2 blade gaps.

Today I received a CG Lv 2 DC I bought in the BST. I already had a Lv 2 SB, and OC. I could never like the Lv 2 SB but the Lv 2 OC was very good. So I shaved half my face with the SB side of the DC, and half with the OC. Giving the OC the hard side.

Both performed equally well, to my surprise, and I learned something. I like blade feel. I sold my .68 Timeless, a Feather AS-D2, among others for that reason. I'm even going to sell my Timeless .95 SB & OC as well. Not enough blade feel for me.

So in this YMMV sport, one man's meat is another man's poison.

Yes, end result wise. My first CGs were an OC Lv 3 from a guy on another forum. Loved it. Picked up a Lv 2 direct from CG sometime later. I didn't care for it. It was very like the Timeless .68 to me. Shaved me well enough, but not like the Lv 3. Then I got a Lv 3 SB base plate from our own Tester, and it too shaved great. 

I then scored a Lv 2 OC, not that long ago, and found it way better than the Lv 2 SB, but never ran them side by side the way I did today with the Lv 2 DC.

Coming to DFS, getting these DC WR2s has stimulated me to do comparison shaves in a way I never did in the past. I mean, shaving half my face with one, then half with the other ... I never would have tried that stuff in the past.

Now it is interesting and fun.
