All of this talk about low versus high gaps stimulated me to dig out my seldom used BBS-1. IIRC it is supposedly 1.00. Not strictly a low gap, but certainly lower than the latest WR2 gaps we're seeing. Also, a member put his LABBS-1 up in the BST for a few days, and has since stated that he had "a moment of clarity" and has withdrawn it.
So I popped a new Feather blade in mine and had a wonderful, smooth, close ... dare I say ... BBS shave. As I said, I haven't shaved with this much at all since I got it. I bought this second hand, from the original owner, and I paid much more than I would have if I'd have gotten it directly from LA Shaving, but much less than what they began to bring after John Brown announced that James would no longer make them.
So I used it a few times, but kept it as a collectible more than a working shaver. What a shaver it is ... to me anyway. Simply one of the smoothest, most efficient razors I've ever used.
As far as CG versus WR1 or WR2 ... For my phizzog a Lv 2 SB is equivalent to a Timeless .68, which means it ain't delivering the goods. OTOH, a Lv 2 OC is very effective/efficient. The Lv 3 SB, or OC is a great shaver, but I find I have to use a light touch to avoid irritation.
I really like the Charcoal Goods razors but wouldn't put the CGs in the same league as the Wolfman in the higher gaps. YMMV
