Haha,

Yea, well,........

The ATT SE for me is at no.4, I really could not call it between the BB & the SE, so the BB edged it on enjoyment of use, design, and blade choice/economy.
So it's the other 2 hey?.........

To be continued as controversial.......I shall start a new thread later & see how it runs....

The ATT SE is one to earn its place in my den, alongside the mighty BB, both are keepers.

It's not always about need, want also counts in my book, do we need life's pleasures or do we want them?

I still want a shiny New Wr2, however there is no room for more than 5 in my rotation, if a razor does not measure up then it goes, whatever the Stable it comes from or rarity.
BB sits at No.3 in my Den, the Wr1 .84 at no.5........its days are numbered with incoming Wr2 I expect....
What is number one and 2

I had meant to post on in interesting experience (to me) with gap. I had gotten a WR1 .94 DC on a drop a month or two ago. I have had a WR1 .74 gotten off the bay for years. Always liked the .74. So I tried the .94 DC upon receipt (directly from James) and I don't know if it was the blade, the phase of the moon, or my technique that day, but I didn't like the feel of the shave.

So a few days later I reached into the den and grabbed what I thought was the .94 ... had a great smooth shave. See I've got like a half dozen between WR1 and WR2 and I swap handles. So sometimes I forget which is which since a few are DC.

I was almost through the whole shave marveling at how close and smooth it felt when I realized it was the .74 !

My first two Wolfman razors, gotten off the bay years ago, were WR1 .61 OC & SB. They were fine. Then I got the .74 and it was better, a .86 and it too was better yet. Eventually, acquiring a BBS-1, a WR2 1.25, I sold the two .61s ... reluctantly.

Speaking of low gaps ... it is remarkable to me that a Blackbird, according to Shane, is .58. The thing works a treat. OTOH, a .68 Timeless worked, but I had to work too hard with it to get where I wanted to go. A Timeless .95 was worlds better than the .68 for me.

Finally, spending more time with the .94 I found it to be a fine razor, and works well for me. It is a DC and I do believe, having experimented with Wolfman, Karve, and Ikon, that the OC side is a gap larger. As in my WR2 1.25 SB, the 0C 1.15 side shaves identically to the SB higher gap side.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it ... YMMV ...  Smile

Nice post Jimmy,

My 2 cents:

The purpose of the gap is to clear soap & stubble, many get hung up on gap alone in relation to efficiency,
The most important part of the shave is a good blade, optimum blade to skin angle, and blade exposure.
The razor handle is just a tool to hold the blade to account,
That being said, a well designed razor will of course increase in efficiency as the gap opens to the point of discomfort & biting, if a blade gap were opened up hugely then the blade angle to skin would increase to the point that the blade would drag causing irritation & burn not to mention a decline in shave quality.
Based on other peoples reports, the Wr2 has a fairly casual sweet spot, so can handle a large gap and still remain smooth.
A Razor with a narrow sweet spot would not be so forgiving with a wider blade gap.

A basic example is this:
how many have tried a blade forward razor to find themselves riding the cap to reduce the blade to skin angle to smooth out the shave? In this situation blade gap is irrelevant.

The BlackBird is a perfect example of great razor geometry with a small gap & for me proves the importance of optimum blade to skin cutting angle, I get an even closer shave from the Bird slightly riding the cap, which effectively gives a reduced blade cutting angle & less blade exposure.....A very VERY smooth shave with a less blade forward feel also.

Just theory & stuff....

YMMV too......  Huh

So this arrived yesterday (Australian time) and I had my first shave with it a few hours ago...

Wolfman first impressions shave!

No point in beating around the bush. This razor is special. Some of that comes from the relative rarity (though becoming more common obviously), and some comes from the quality of craftsmanship that James DuFour provides (even on the ‘budget’ model, and the remainder of the experience is made up of the shave itself.

As prevadvised, my razor has the 1.05mm gap and paired with the solid H2 handle. I was bouncing around before finalising the order on whether to go for the standard gap, or up 1 or 2 levels, as well as whether to get the handle hollowed out. I confirmed my order to James and a few hours later, revised my order completely to which he was more than happy to do for me. A true customer service based person in my dealings with him.

So after putting the Polsilver blade from yesterday into the new razor, lathering up with some well known and familiar soap, I put the razor against my face.

Wow!

Finding the correct angle was simple, or in other words, is there a wrong angle? I don’t think so...

The weight of the razor was heavy, but not overly so that it was too much. In fact I became to enjoy the added weight over my other razors.

I did my normal two pass plus touch ups shave. Firstly all WTG, then a XTG/ATG hybrid, crisscross pattern on my neck, and ATG on cheeks. The audible feedback on the first pass was much higher than my karves and effortless to use. The second pass, as I have read in many reports, magically smooths out compared to pass 1. Don’t ask me why, or how, but it was. The razor just glides over the face and takes every whisker away with it. Rinsing under the tap, it cleans away without issue.

After two passes, and only because I wanted to keep using the razor, I went looking for some pick up spots. Any here? Nope- all clean. How about in this spot? Nah no need to go over that spot. Under the nose? Sure I can do some light touch ups there! But there was so little to have to go back over. Even under my chin, which has some stubborn areas, was BBS.

Colour me impressed!

Keeping in mind that this is purely my first impressions and over time, things might change, but it wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t again thank a random Kiwi for his timing of putting the notice out there that the google form was live and taking responses!

What else can I say? Getting under the nose was easy. No problems there. Loading the blade, again a wonderful experience with a unique method (to me).

Anyone who wants to know anything more, hit me up and I’d be happy to provide my thoughts!
Take care!

Coming to Australia - It was 2 weeks which is on the better side of average from Canada.
The time for James to build the razor was 1 week, perhaps he has a small inventory of most common parts running non-stop.
Now to decide if i should jump back in to the back of the queue for another bite in a few years....

Congrats on the new razor. Great wrtite-up too.

Yes, get back in line. You may like a larger gap for heavier growth.
