Yeah, I get it. There is a self styled shave guru here that blasts me for lack of technique because I use large gap razors, then admits he prefers them himself. Whatever. My opinion is just that, my opinion. Yall are free to skip over my poo. Hell, maybe you will get lucky and find a "block" button somewhere.

Some people clearly don't understand the razor geometry,
Ultimately the gap is only there to clear spent stubble & soap, a larger gap in a well designed razor with accurate blade set simply creates more blade exposure hence a closer shave is possible....there are several ways to adjust the set & exposure of the blade in a DE to create a more efficient razor other than gap alone.
A straight razor has a rather large blade gap and huge blade exposure providing a shave second to none!
A large gap DE can only hope to get close to a straight for me......still looking......Wr2 1.55...... .....Invoice due any moment.......
I don’t know. I think YMMV is always important to remember and no one persons opinion should be taken as anything else than what it is - an opinion.
I will reach for a straight over DE any day...Even over a WR2. However my taste in wolfmans is .61 and .67 wr1 and 1.05 in wr2 with 1.15 used from time to time.
For me the edge on a straight razor will never feel anything like a DE blade. I would NEVER want to use a de blade the same way as a straight. They’re more different than they are alike.
My straights all feel much more mild on the face than a 1.25 wr2. Again, YMMV, and my opinion. I would reach for a .95 wr2 over a 1.25 any chance I could.
Absolutely YMMV,
I was referring (badly maybe) to the original quote of a self styled shave guru discounting the benefits of larger gapped Wr2's suggesting no understanding of the basic geometry of DE razors in general.

Never knew I am considered a shave guru And I'd rather go back to dumb phones than use any apple products...
You should have also quoted, that I have (yet) to shave with the WR2...and I am really bored today, else I wouldn't have seen your post here today

These things cost a bomb as it is...and you only get one shot nowadays...thereafter it's either wait for a few years...or be relegated to the purgatory of trading.
And no one will ever trade a higher gap for a 0.95. So just winding you up for that....no worries, it's all good.

I don’t know if there’s a personal angle to this aside from the info but if so maybe take it to PM? I’d hate to see this thread get troublesome as it’s a good resource for folks.
People trade for lower gaps all the time on other platforms. This just isn’t correct.

Huh....why the need to take it to PM? It's in the domain of public interest.
We are still discussing the WR2 head and all its nuances.
Granted, I have seen a guy wanting to trade his WR1 0.54 for a 0.48 recently.
But I haven't seen a trade involving a high gap WR2 for a 0.95. And even if they do
exist, they are scant by comparison.
I know you're partial to the WR2 1.05 gap....a position which I do not share.
However, I do not feel the need to address you on these matters. What someone
likes is their business and none of mine. However, I do notice when someone
who admits they haven't used a particular gap is trying to steer others to
making a hugely expensive choice that may or may not be right for them.
I hope you're not trying to dictate the course of this thread because you're the topic starter.
That's what moderators are for. Majority of human interactions are guided by a personal angle.

Users of 1.55mm WR2 gap have very thick skins so don't be afraid you'll offend me.

I don't recall ever seeing someone trading higher gapped WR2 for a 0.95. I would try the max gap that you think you can handle. You can always trade for a lower gap. Read through the posts - I think most folks found the 0.95 to be too mild.

All I was suggesting that if you and your Aussie buddy have a personal history, or beef, then to take it to PM. How you managed to extrapolate all the other stuff is beyond me.
Not every trade gets made in public view.

Why would you advance some nonsensical conspiracy theory that isn't true?
I only speak for trade posts that I have seen...or in this case, not seen.
I've noticed you take it a little personally when someone says something that isn't flattering about
a low gap WR2 head. Why can't I sing the praises of high gap heads and scoff at the low gaps,
while you do the opposite? I think this forum is mature enough to accommodate both points
of view.

One more post on this and then I’m done.
Read my post - people trade for lower gaps all the time. I didn’t say anything about .95
Case in point I traded a 1.15 for MY 1.05 about 2 weeks ago.
And btw I actually prefer the 1.15 but I can’t use it daily.
I just all the edits. Not touching that bunch of crazy with a 10ft pole.
