I received a WR2+WRH7 from a friend today (on loan) and took it for its maiden voyage. For comparison, I used a WR1-0.67 gap with the same blade (Wizamet) for a few strokes.


WR2 definitely has less blade feel than 67 WR1. It is what most folks would call a less efficient razor (than WR1 67). (I don't agree with that definition completely but I understand what is meant). The range of effective angle is narrower than the WR1 (and most of my razors). So those who don't like to concentrate on angle much and like significant blade feel probably should steer clear of this razor. I would, however, say that this razor does have some blade feel (personally I prefer blade feel - I like to feel what I am doing). I am not super happy about it but can live with it. From memory, it felt like Rockwell Razor setting 3 on my face.  I had a pretty good shave (~30 hrs growth), not the closest, but very comfortable. Going ATG on my neck (my trouble area) wasn't difficult, no pulling/tugging.

Where this razor shines is the level of comfort. Not once I felt even a hint of discomfort during my shave. As you can guess, my 'soap' today doesn't offer the best slickness or cushion, everything depended on me, my shaving god and the razor. Alum test (which I sometimes use to judge a new blade/ razor) score would be 95/100. Almost 0 burn. I couldn't be happier in that aspect.

Anyway, I am looking forward to using this razor more. If I get the chance to buy one tonight, I would go for an increased blade gap version. But wouldn't be unhappy if I get standard gap only. It seems like an excellent, smooth daily driver.

(For reference some of my favorite razors are: 34C, BlackBird, CG level 2, WR1 67, REX on 4, Karve D etc)

Thanks for your thoughts. They concur with mine. It's a great shaver, I just prefer more efficiency.

Thanks everyone for providing feedback. Not only is it always interesting to read (along with viewing great pics) but reviews here probably still serve as our best feedback prior to making a purchase. Especially with limited availability high end gear that requires cat like reflexes to purchase on a moments notice. After reading through this thread I have a pretty good idea where the standard gap WR2 is beginning to fall.

I hope to get a WR2 as I have a few WR1’s, however, I feel it is inappropriate to slam other razor makers. I also have Paradigm razors and enjoy the shave I get from them. If there is a reason you don’t like a razor it would make sense to say why but to degrade another type of razor to hype another without explaining why you feel that way helps no one who may be interested in that razor.

YMMV but since called out regarding deltas,  elaborating unwillingly (don’t enjoy being critical re artisan products given effort and personal finances they invest).

Had a number of Paradigm DEs (17-4, Ti and TiII)

The build quality is good, on a level with Timeless but nowhere near duFour products.  Have found the ability to control the razor is compromised by handle shapes emphasizing style over ease of secure grip. Blade feel is virtually nonexistent compared to any duFour razor in any gap used to date including BBS1 (not sure why others claim no blade feel as I find it as apparent as a straight edge giving incredible angular feedback) and WR1s ranging in gap from 0,48 thru 0,74 both open comb and straight bar.  Constantly get bites and weepers using even mild blades with any Paradigm DE used to date (have tried a broad array of blades ranging from Gillette GSB to Feather e.g., Polsilver blades deliver an irritated and swollen face taking a day to heal between shaves).  Finally prefer a razor with more heft.

Getting a WR2 to compare in the coming weeks and will definitely opine in this thread as to how it compares to other duFour razors which are my benchmark for DE excellence.

Your opinion matches mine reg blade feel and comparison to WR1 and Paradigm. I’m hoping that the OC at higher gaps will do the trick. Will receive it on Tuesday (gap 1.15)...if all goes well.
