In the meantime google has found the answer to my question on the exposure of the WR1 (old page tucked away on the Wolfman site).
So now I'm trying to figure out exposure for .48 and .54 as James won't tell us.
Anyone good with numbers?
If we use this formula:
"So the standard design in inches is a .024" blade gap (.61mm) and a few customers have gotten a .005" increase to .029" (.74mm) and on this razor according to my personal blueprints for each .005" change in blade gap it will add or subtract .003" in blade exposure (that imaginary line tangent to the cap and guard). So you're getting .003 more blade exposure if you go with the same increase others have gotten."

I am good at math but very new to razors so apologies if this is wrong. As I understand it, the ratio of the blade exposure : blade gap changes according to a 3 : 5 ratio. So if .61mm is neutral exposure, then .54 and .48 should have -.042 and -.078 blade gap respectively. Were you expecting negative exposure? Let me know if this seems reasonable or if I'm off base.

Thanks for having a go at the calculations. Honestly I have no idea what the answers should be! I've never tried a Wolfman but am signed up to the waiting list. Hopefully someone who has used these gaps can comment.
My bad math said to ignore .54 as the change wasn't big enough to get the reduction in exposure? Changes per 0.005" difference in gap. 0.024 (.61mm) - 0.005 = 0.019" (.48mm).

I've shaved enough with the .61 in both SB and OC, to be able to say that the .74 is 'better' (as in better for me) than the two .61s which I eventually sold.

I've never been able to fathom shaving with less than the .61, but I haven't had an opportunity to try a .54 or a .48. Nor the desire either.
I am trying to decide on a gap for my upcoming Wolfman WR1 purchase and have been lucky enough to have gotten the opportunity to try out a .86DC. I was wondering if there is any consensus on whether OC is really smoother than SB as I have read this a few times and I kind feel the same way. For this morning's shave, I compared them left to right, and, particularly ATG, I found the OC to be ever so slightly smoother. What I also noticed is that the SB seems to be more efficient, to the point of it being ever so slightly uncomfortable ATG under the chin.
So, in short. Does anyone else find the OC to be smoother than SB in the same gap? What about efficiency?

Have 3 Wolfman WR1 DC in my rotation. While smoothness is perceived by the individual and opinions very, would flatly suggest the OC not smoother than SB. If anything, the OC slightly less smooth than SB albeit not much; would posit it half a gap difference: e.g., 0,61 OC roughly equates to 0,64 SB. Efficiency hardly changes; however the OC just doesn’t clog when shaving longer beard growth or body hair
