Wolfman WR1 gap advice please

I agree with JimmyH regarding the WR1s and have SB and OC in .74, .86, and .94. I only have 1.35 SB in WR2 and tried a 1.15 DC about a year ago. The WR1s are rather intuitive to ME and I use all the gaps (Depending on how much growth and other factors, Keeps things interesting), and I am still 'struggling' to master the WR2 in general and the 1.35SB in particular. YMMV really applies here.
ALSO, I found it very interesting, informative, and rather humorous to read (reread) the earlier (2018) posts on this thread, how times have changed, or have they???

You know am going to suggest 0,74 just too much for my skin

I’ve had great success with the .61, .67, and .74 in open comb. I’m a twice a week shaver. Extended use of the .74 though would leave me with slight irritation at my one trouble spot on my neck. Everywhere else it was perfect all the time. I do want to add a .74 or slightly higher in SB at some point. The .61 and .67 were no slouch though as either would also knock down 3 days growth with ease on a first pass.

I must say that I've taken to the WR2 like a duck to water.

I actually think that is the best designed safety razor I've ever shaved with, bar none.

I’m a bit ashamed to admit I bought a WR1 .74 open comb almost four years ago, and rarely used it until recently. I convinced myself early on that it wasn’t efficient enough, or blade-forward enough, or “aggressive” enough, as that’s about when I went into my Ikon Tech—PAA DOC Evo—R41 2011 phase. This past summer, I picked it up again, and was amazed how efficient it was, though not aggressive or blade-forward (on my face).

Then, on September 6, I placed my order for the WR2 1.35 open comb. I’m not sure which one I like better, though I still think my Charcoal Goods Level 3 open combs in brass (both antique and shiny) are the kings of the hill (of razors in my den). Love my Wolfmans, though.

I ended up good with a 74 SB. I’ll let everyone know how I feel about it once I receive it. I also compare it to the 61 and 67 I’ve been using.

Old post, but it seems that most WR1 talk is buried in the WR2 thread or outdated.
How are you liking the .74?
I recently picked up a WR2 1.25. I rejoined the waitlist for a WR1 .74.
I’m thinking of going for the WR1 to have something a bit different and because the RR Lupo has turned into a surprise favorite shaver. I believe the Lupo is modeled on the .61. I love how it shaves but wish it were a bit more efficient.
I think you have a WR2 too, right? Do the WR1s still get any use?

I love the .74. My first WRs were .61 SB & OC. I kept them for quite a long time but eventually sold them after getting the .74 DC, and an .86 OC. Love both of those. I picked up a WR1 .94 the last drop before the google order method began.

So I mistakenly grabbed my DC .74, thinking it was the DC .94. I was midway through shaving a 2 day growth thinking ... Wow ! This thing is so smooth ! I then took a closer look and realized it was the .74. I personally think it is a great gap to have.

I love the WR2 1.25, and the 1.55. WR1 is great too in .74, .86, and .94. YMMV of course.

if you're familiar with any of these ... a Charcoal Goods Lv 2 for daily shaving, or Lv 3 if you skip a day or two, a Timeless SS .95, a Blackbird, a Karve F SB or OC. For me those are all top shavers. Not saying they are equal to the WRs, or that they are not ... just that I like those too for a comparison. 

A Feather AS-D1, or a Pils ...  I cannot enjoy shaving with them. Too mild. So if you like a mild razor such as those two, you may not like what I prefer.

The WR2 1.25 and Timeless .95 are my top two right now. I’d really like the Karve E and D too. The D plate and the Lupo are less aggressive but I can still get an excellent shaves with them. Those two are also nice and easy and smooth, which is nice sometimes and especially when I’m feeling extra coffee deprived in the morning.

The Feather razor was my first new acquisition after happily shaving exclusively with a Weber for five plus years. I just couldn’t get along with it. I sold it and went crazy with Rad for a couple of years lol.

I like shaving every 36-48 hours. The 1.25 is at the top end of what I need for growth and shaving preference. I’d probably go for 1.15 if I were to get another WR2. I think that would be my Goldilocks gap.
And you’re right, when I started looking at older posts about the WR1 and 2, it definitely seemed like takes have shifted in the past few years.

I’m starting to lean towards the .67 in sb. The new short comb is the only open that seemed to agree with me on atg passes. I really like the look of the of the WR1 on a Darwin.

I currently own a .80 in SS and a .61 in Ti (both SB). I like both and use them for different amounts of growth. Eventually, I would like to replace the .80 with the same thing in Ti. To me, the comfort increase that comes with Ti is more striking in the WR1 than in the WR2.

I’m happy this thread has been resurrected. I can’t say I prefer the WR2 to the WR1 or vice versa.

One thing I’m curious about is how the blade feel changes with WR1 gap increases. My take from the threads is that blade feel is more pronounced in the WR1 vs. the WR2 as gap increases, true?
I like a bit of positive blade exposure, but not too much. I’d say the Karve E is about as much blade feel as I need.

Yes. It's also consistent throughout the shave. Blade feel on a WR1 increases with gap but there is no harshness imparted, none. In fact, they get smoother. I've kept an 80OC, 860C and 94OC in SS and a 94SB in Ti.

I had 61, 67, and 74 heads too but moved them as I found from .80mm up to be exceptional shaver.

I've got WR2s from 115 to 155 and really like all of those heads. The 145 and 155 have good blade feel but, like any WR2, after the first pass it diminishes.
