Thayers medicated. Not every shave. It depends on what AS, if any, I plan on using.

Just saw this thread and had to post this on here.

Anyhow, I just wanted to bring up a Thayers Witch Hazel product that I recently acquired about 2 weeks ago and since using it I have been very surprised on the effects and performance of this particular item. I know that the Thayers Toners have been around for quite some time but, I’ve never seen this particular one in the Lemongrass scent with the addition of Salicylic Acid in a 2% concentration. I don’t know if it’s ever been present previously in their toners, I just happened to realize it when I bought this particular one. I don’t know much about Salicylic Acid after a brief search other than that it’s very good at helping clear out acne/pimples, softening and loosening dry skin and a few others skin conditioning benefits. I don’t suffer from acne as I’m 52 going on 53 in a couple of months and haven’t had to deal with it since my mid to late teens. However, I do have slightly oily skin and do use products that help in conditioning, clearing and providing a cleansing and drying of the oily skin condition that I at times encounter. I have a few products from the wet shave world that work marvelously well pre, during & post of my daily shave regime. like I said, I’ve only had this product for a couple of weeks and probably have used it 4-5 times during that time frame. It offers excellent soothing and toning properties because of the witch hazel of course but, the added ingredient of Salicylic Acid has provided a very soft and healthy feeling skin. And for the price of $7.99 it’s a real nice product for either pre or post shave that delivers worthy skin conditioning benefits. The scent is light but, very pleasant and if stored in the fridge for a bit adds a nice freshness and cooling effect. Yes, it’s alcohol free which is a minor drawback but, I have plenty of alcohol based splashes to finish off and give me the desired bracing effect that I need.

Two thumbs up for this product that I find beneficial in my personal use so far. And for those that might suffer from extreme oily skin and/or acne, this might be worth looking into.

Great shaves to all…

if I feel any hint of a rough shave, I'll use a tiny splash of Dickenson's WH. If I caused any nicks, I use the Ossma Alum bar.

Both have seemingly been helpful in mitigating some amount of irritation.

The mainstay of my shave improvements have been from refining my lather making and dialing in my razor choice and technique. The WH and alum are my band-aids if something or someone (me) has an off day.

Have used witch hazel for years. Where did you find Thayer's for $7.99? I switched to Dickinson's because Thayer's had gotten a bit expensive for me at this time. Usually around $11-$13 a bottle most places I buy. I have used it prior to my splash for years now and I occasionally use an astringent before the witch hazel as well. It really helps clean the skin of any additional dirt and post shaving residue. I also don't believe I have seen salicylic acid in any other products. It is primarily something I see in acne products. Clearasil pads and the like.
