Haven't used a single badger/boar brush since I started using my synthetics...there simply isn't a need to, imho.

Me either, all I use anymore is my Muhle V2 and Stirling Kong.

Wow! I guess I am in the opposite camp and in the minority, here, after trying most of the synthetics. Shy

Celestino, I don't think you are.

I too love and prefer my high end badgers, as I call them.
After a long search, I almost gave up on Synthetics, but now may have found a couple or 3, that will stay in my collection.

The Stirling KONG and 2 CrownKing brushes, all with 26 mm Plisson like knots, but denser and as said with 26 mm knot size. I really enjoy them. Much more than the tiny 22 mm Plisson knot, which only worked as my travel brush.

But my badgers still rule BY FAR over the synthetics.

Once you go into the custom made Shavemac territory, the Simpson Manchurian and 2-band Silvertip area and the larger sized more densely packed 2-band Thäter ground, IMHO synthetics are left in the dust.

YMMV

nah, there's probably still a lot more badger & boar lovers out there than synthetics for the simple fact that quality synthetic knots are still relatively new to our community. for me though, my $10 razorock synthetic works just fine and I'm perfectly ok with that.

I think the best thing to be taken from this thread and the video is that anyone who hasn't tried a plisson type knot really should consider trying one sometime. There will always be people who prefer real hair brushes and people who prefer synthetics, but imo it is best to try both before settling on one or the other. I actually use both but if I had to pick one brush to use forever it would be a plisson type synthetic.

for how cheap they are, it's definitely worth giving modern synthetics a try.

Agreed. My new Maggard 24mm synthetic is a good use of the Plisson-style knot (less floppy than the Plisson) and is a lovely brush to use. It costs $12. It's now the first brush I recommend to my new-to-wet-shaving friends.

I agree with both!

My Razorock boar brush is unequivicolly my favorite brush. It is the first brush I reach for when prepping for a shave, no doubt. I love it. I even stand there and smell it when it's dry, I love it so much...

BUT...my 24mm Maggard's Plisson-type synthetic is an excellent brush and an incredible value at only $12. As I am looking to put together a kit for my daughter to start using, you can rest assured that she will get the 24mm synthetic in the purple handle because for the cost and ease of use...it's very difficult to beat it.

I just happen to prefer the feel of my boars...
