If I did, that was not my intention. If you someone is making a sacrifice in their life, prioritizing buying soap that sits in a closet over fundamental human needs, I sure hope not.

"Do you want more men to experience the pleasure, satisfaction, and closeness in shaving that you do?" Yes/No

"Do you want your favorite artisans and shaving companies to succeed and grow, or suffer and go out of business?" Yes/No

"Do you want even better quality shaving products, with innovative technology in the future you never dreamed possible?" Yes/No

You have to ask yourself those questions as well if you want the hobby to stay niche, or if you don't care.

So this is the old rhetorical question of "How long have you been beating your wife?"

You've shaded the questions to get the answers you want. Just the other day I was at one of the resellers web sites offering me free blades or something, i forget, and they did the exact same thing, asking a shaded question implying that if I didn't answer the way they wanted me to, that I was stupid. Guess again.

You can frame the questions for "the average guy" or for the target demographics, as @"Uzi"  notes.

Worse yet, you assumptions are off.

1. I can get JUST a close a shave with a cartridge and be JUST as satisfied.
2. Average guy could care less about "better quality shaving products", that might be your assumption but ask the man in the street. Someone earlier in the thread noted that when he talked to his fellow workers, they thought he was nuts.
3. "Artisans" will succeed or fail on their own merit. Trying to shift results to seem like your favorite will go out of business is a fear tactic to shift the results

etc.

I'd let it go. It will succeed or fail on its own and whatever we say will have zero effect on the masses - Average Guy is too busy worrying about where is next meal is coming from and who will win March Madness.

Your last statement is so arrogant and even stereotypical that to me ruined the rest of your logical argument. But, it is your opinion, so is nothing wrong with that.

This is a rich men hobby/lifestyle I guess.

Again, you make it sound like a person needs to own a Wolfman, SMN, ADP aftershave and a Rooney Finest to enjoy it.

A whole nice shaving set for less than $40.00 and I can show you even cheaper and just as nice.

grim, the questions I asked are directly related to whether this hobby becomes more mainstream or falls behind. They are not in the same category as when you stopped beating your wife, as that question is one in which may not exist in the first place. And if you don't want to talk about the positives of wet shaving, why are you, or any of us here?

If you get the same quality and closeness by shaving with a cart, I'm happy for you, but I don't. And every man I've talked to that shaves with a cart, says its convenient, but they don't like it. This tells me there is room for improvement in the industry, whether you want that or not.

That was not my intent. My point was that if someone is spending money accumulating excessive number of soaps when the money should be going to the more fundamental things in life, like food, transportation, clothes, etc. then yes, I think that is wrong, especially if those soaps sit in a closet, and it doesn't matter if the soaps are Williams or MdC. Some things are more important to others when it comes to the fundamentals.

I do think that one should prioritize things and some things are just more important than others. If you think that is wrong or comes across arrogant, I'm sorry but I was discussing fundamental human needs vs hobby needs.

grim cool, I get your point. Much clear and I agree. Family should be first, but I never go out of my way to assume, that's all. Is all good :-)

Hehe, it doesn't get more old school barbershop than that.  I love it, even over some of my most expensive ones.  But is definitely an aquired scent IMO.

Posting Freak
I haven't really looked at this thread for a day or so and it has really moved along.

Why should the average man join us? By joining us I mean shaving with soap, brush and DE blade and not becoming a dedicated hobbyist / collector of all things shaving.

Jumping in, I think I'm an average guy and I think I could justify shaving with B&M soap exclusively even if I were on a limited budget. First off its just so darn good - I used LGC today after a few days of using other soaps and B&M really is that good. Secondly, I could afford to buy one tub at a time and use it until its gone while saving to buy the next one. It starts to get "expensive" when we choose to acquire more soap than we could ever reasonably use in our lifetimes but the "average guy" doesn't have to do that. He can find his favourite and stick to it and lots of guys do. There are decent reasonably priced razors, brushes and aftershaves out there too. For many, perhaps even most men shaving is still a daily activity rather than a hobby. Granted, it can be a pleasant daily activity but that still doesn't have to break the bank and done practically it can even save the average man money. Thats why the average man should join us.
