why do people get banned at shaving sites?

None of the above applies here. Heck, they even tolerate me. The last place I was banned there was a exactly one artisan before I got banned, afterward there were exactly zero artisan members because I was that lone artisan. But the relationships continued through emails and other forums. Just because I was banned at that other forum meant little in the large scheme of things. Other folks mention my products over there and I have to think that it sticks in her craw to read those posts. :-) Excellent!

I just need to find the time to make more products to tick her off even more. LOL!

If it is the place I am thinking of, there are a number of artisans who are paid supporters, but they rarely if ever say anything. Friendly rank and file, but there was occasionally some really weird stuff going on there. Vendors seem to take pains to avoid being seen publicly. The one I saw who did otherwise did not last long.

Overall this is all pretty light still compared to the drama of playing online Monopoly. At least from my experience. lol

I've found this thread to be quite interesting as DFS is the first and only forum that I've been active on, although I have on occasion looked at other sites especially if there's been a review of a product I might be interested in.  I've found DFS to be respectful and supportive.  I think we all understand that vendors and artisans are interested in the business side of their ventures and are also regular people who in all likelihood have an interest in wet shaving and all sorts of other various subjects as we can see in the Lounge section of DFS.  I can certainly understand why a vendor/artisan may be reluctant to comment favourably or negatively about their own legitimate experience with a particular product of another vendor/artisan - while it may be a sincerely held, experience based opinion no different than mine or any other member, it will always be open to criticism.  Thats fine as long as we all have realistic expectations and treat everybody respectfully we shouldn't have too many concerns.  
I don't know the terms for vendor/artisan participation on DFS, I assume it would be the same as regular members although I expect that the advertising must come with a fee of some sort, something has to be covering the costs of running the forum.  I must say, I find the advertising both helpful as well as the right amount.  I would be annoyed if there was tons of advertising and pop-ups. Overall good job.

There is one other forum that I frequent and I have developed a rapport with a number of members, find it generally informative and often entertaining however some of those with whom I have had the same were banned for reasons that I couldn't quite explain.

Several have found DFS, one of which actually pointed me in this direction.

I very much like it here. I feel that Andrew and the team of created an environment where we can have some fun, learn a bit and enjoy a dialogue about a number of things.

I also VERY much like the Vendor and Artisan participation at DFS which I feel is singularly unique in the space.

I like to learn more of their approach to the business, interact directly even if more passively via other's posts and also express my profound appreciation for all they do to support what really has become a hobby.

there's no fee for vendors & artisans (soon to be combined into 1 and renamed as 'merchants', BTW) to post on the forum. Right now we're covering the cost to run & operate the site with their banner ads. just thought I'd throw that out there.

I love it when vendors & artisans interact with the community that they're serving. one of the reasons a lot of vendors & artisans do not join forums is the fear that they'll get banned for speaking outside of their little corners - after all, a lot of the larger forums out there are owned by vendors/artisans and or heavily influenced by such.

I think the fact that I'm a neutral forum owner is very attractive to vendors and artisans, especially those that typically do not get involved with shaving forums.

I agree, it is unique and very beneficial to both merchants and all the other members. The way all are welcomed here creates an atmosphere where everyone can be upfront, straightforward and honest. No need to secretly recruit shills or result to other skullduggery to get the message out, as the merchants can just say so directly and without fear of getting the ban hammer. The close and friendly interaction also results in merchants getting feedback in a way they would not get on any other site.

All forums cost money to operate, so a way of generating revenue needs to be found. Some ways of generating revenue are much better than others. Imagine a place where vendors are welcomed with open arms. Suppose there was a way for these vendors to place ads that people would actually look forward to seeing and want to engage with. That would be a marketer's and a vendor's dream, as well as making the audience very happy.

See what I mean? Guess to which forum the merchants are going to flock and advertise in? That is the result of good planning.

we already have a few here that do not normally participate in forums. there's still a few I'm trying to nudge (soap commander being one) to sign up and enjoy the forum.

I might be getting banned very soon on the big shave site for standing for ethical treatment. I was told that the forum is not the place with such things yet the site is filled social commentary.
