I left one of the other forums because they banned me....twice

They also banned Gary Young, Will and Joe, so at least I'm in good company.

All evidence has been buried, all tapes have been erased.

Never actually understood why I was banned. I didn't break any enumerated rules that I know of and I tried to contribute to the community as best I could.

Ah well. The circlejerk is strong with those folks anyway. I wish the parties responsible the best, so long as they stay the hell away from me.

I didn't understand it either. I saw a thread where someone asked why you got banned. They just said "some rules were broken".

I got banned from a famous Place for disagreeing with an established member about razor dating (even though he was wrong!)
He was also one of Europe's finest strop makers, God rest his soul, so when I told him not to "get into a strop" I was banned for life Smile
He was so angry that he chased me onto another forum where I repeated the joke...
...This taught me to not take this stuff so seriously, and that there's good and bad wherever you go.

Posting Freak
I think if there is a transgression of either the written or unwritten rules there should be consequences. Particularly for transgression of unwritten rules because as we all know those can be made to fit any occasion. The power to ban shouldn't reside in one person either, we should convene a Court of Star Chamber sort of thing where the accused will be brought before the cloaked and hooded members of the Court in a torch lit chamber (all virtual of course) where vague accusations will be made and then, after having neither the opportunity to face his accusers nor any real knowledge of the charges against him and no opportunity to defend himself, the accused will be summarily convicted to suffer banishment for all time. Or at least until they can re-register under a different name.

Just to avoid any confusion and risk banishment, I'm jokingSmile

I got banned after politely responding to a moderator's ludicrous, substantively incorrect response to a relatively new member who asked a very reasonable question of the OP of the thread. Without warning, I was PM'ed saying I was banned from HIS specific forum for 30 days. He went on to say that I had a history of being a troublemaker- 4 or 5 times in SEVEN years I pushed back on some stuff. Anyway, after letting him know how outrageous he was [this was not done politely] I was off to new horizons.

The moderators at that site like to tell how hard their jobs are; how they don't do it for money -- yet they rarely [in some cases never] "resign."

DFS is off to a great start-keep it up!

If that's true, no one ever told ME about it. They just banned me when I asked to be downgraded to artisan status; they refused my request, so I asked that my vendor subscription be lifted so that I could function as a regular member. Instead, I got a lifetime ban. o.O

don't feel bad, I caught a ban for no reason as well and I use to be an admin..no email/pm/reason listed for the ban whatsoever. cowardly, imho.

Banning simply means you can no longer login to a forum, and hence can't do anything that requires a login. It is like getting exiled in the real world. Do people get banned at DFS? Sure, it's possible if they make a complete jackass out of themselves. That holds true for nearly any forum. Be polite and respectful here and all will be well, regardless of your views and opinions. That does not hold true for some other wetshaving forums. You can get banned at those places simply for posting an opinion or information with which a moderator or administrator does not agree, even if you are polite and well mannered. No, it's not fair, but some forums suck.

Ok, so why? Sometimes it is because the mods and admins are immature, and ban people for no good reason. Going to such a forum is like going back to high school, or perhaps kindergarten. In other cases, it is because the "forums" are actually commercial ventures disguised as forums. One forum is little more than a wannabe advertising agency from what I have seen. At least two others are thinly disguised billboards for the owner's online business. Say anything that does not further, or is contrary to, the owner's profit goals and bam!, you will be banned. No, it's not fair, and is a conflict of interest IMHO, but some forums suck.

Other forums are friendly, well run, with good will, are reasonable, and very beneficial. Those forums rock! Damn Fine Shave is one of them. If you want to be treated fairly and well, you have come to the right place. Smile

Where can I find the forum rules here? . I've avoided posting on other forums because I'm sure I'll get asked to pay some astronomical fee to be a "hobbyist" or whatever. I'm considering being active here, but would like to look at the rules before investing a lot of energy into a community where I may be ultimately banned.
