Hi all,

I am dying to find my first Wholly Kaw product to bring into the den and also looking for a great scent. Jamestown Gentleman is in the running but I'm curious if anyone here has real-world experience with the scent (I guess the aftershave too) and can tell me what the prevailing profile is or what other soap/AS scent it reminds them of?

My current Tobacco experience is really limited to Razorock Santa Maria del Fiore (a scent a very much enjoy) and Razorock Tuscan Oud.

Thanks!!

I haven’t tried Santa Maria del Fiore, but Tuscan Oud is my favorite aftershave, no contest.

I really enjoy Jamestown Gentleman. I don’t know if you’ve tried Tabac, but I would place it right between Tabac and Tuscan Oud. Tabac is a classic, strong scent with a certain sharpness to it, whereas Tuscan Oud is a little more rounded and, in my opinion, elegant.

Jamestown Gentleman is more muted than either of them, but still has a very distinctive tobacco flower scent. Whereas Tuscan Oud is a fairly bold scent, and one I would categorize as “modern,” I feel that Jamestown Gentleman would be a better fit for a boardroom meeting. However, this doesn’t mean it’s stuffy. It is a very refined, classy and elegant scent. I honestly can’t see how anyone would not enjoy it.

I hope this helps.

Matsilainen, that is a truly helpful post! I also enjoy Tuscan Oud but have been fearful its too strong for my office environment and unfortunately had confirmation from my wife of this last weekend when I wore it and she told me I need to use less or something because its too strong... first time she's ever commented at all! Doh!

More muted, refined, and better fit for the boardroom is what I'd be going for for sure.

Last I had my wife smell it (the Tuscan Oud soap), she said the scent reminded me of a “men’s lavatory pee puck”. Needless to say, I found the comment crushing, as Tuscan Oud to me is a scent I could see the coolest movie star on the planet wearing.

It’s also really amazing how long the aftershave lasts on the skin. A little goes a very long way in this case.

Let us know if you decide to try Jamestown Gentleman. I really do enjoy that one a lot, too, and hope you would, as well.

I will let you know for sure! I am running a few "winter and fall season" soaps down right now (got the circle of despair showing in a couple at least right now) so I want to order something soon for sure. I heard that Jamestown Gentleman should be in the Donkey milk formula starting in February so I was thinking of waiting for then but I may just pull the trigger on another Wholly kaw before then... Man from Mayfair or Monaco Royale or Merchant of Tobacco or something very soon.

What does your wife think of Jamestown since she hated Tuscan Oud (I know, it is a uniquely crushing experience to have the negative wife comment on something you love! ha ha!)?

Another one to consider is Man From Mayfair. A very nice barbershop scent. Probably their mildest scent right now. Performance? Outstanding!

I've got about half a dozen WK soaps. My favorite is King of Oud. I have the soap, aftershave splash, aftershave balm (2) and deodorant. Tremendous scent that is mild to my nose.

Oh yeah. I forgot I have a second puck of the shaving soap, as well as two balms. This scent, although mild, is among my favorites. An EdT is in order, I believe...

King of Oud is on my list for sure. There are a lot of tempting options from WK!!!!

I just used King OF Oud for the first time today. It may be my favorite WK scent along with Chypre Rose Concerto. Project Leather is also a nice scent that comes with matching EDT if you are looking for more longevity from a scent.
