I think I am going to finally open this bottle. It's a regional brand and not sure if it will end up being more gimmick than quality. It was a gift.

I’ve seen this bottle but never tried anything from 291. Very interested to hear your thoughts.

I get a fairly dominant hit of molasses or caramelized sugar in the nose with a wisp of possibly dried fruit in the background. Upon first taste I am hit with a large punch of cinnamon esque spice followed behind with a solid dose of alcohol heat. I ended up dropping in a single large cube and it smoothed things out a bit along with opening up the flavor. I am starting to pick up a bit of vanilla now. For me the spice notes are still a bit heavy handed and one dimensional. Although I feel that I am starting to get more of a pepper tone than say cinnamon. The heat has also settled down and behind the spice and pepper notes there is a relatively pleasing base, but I can't quite make out what is contributing to it. I think I am still getting vanilla but maybe a hint of fruit or sugar notes, not certain. The spice is still hanging out in inner cheek walls and back of throat and dominating. Maybe some astringency from wood starting to make an appearance on the sides of the tongue. I think if you enjoy more intense spice notes this could be worth investigating but not sure it is something I would seek out as a first choice, at least at the price point. Having said that it is my first encounter. I will probably go back to this a few more times before a final assessment.

I appreciate your in depth tasting notes there! I talked to a buddy that’s also had their stuff and he said it’s definitely a polarizing bottle and to try before buying. Still, a very generous gift bottle and I hope you end up enjoying it. It’s interesting how bottles can change and open up with a little air, I’ve had some fresh cracks that weren’t great but with some time they became spectacular.

$46 here so as was stated, it's in stiffer competition. I'll say it is SMOOOOTH though.
