So I broke and ordered a Whipped Dog 24mm High Mountain badger shave brush with a tall handle. Anyone have any experience with these? I'm just trying to get a better idea of what to expect. Thanks. I'll post pics once it arrives.

ruffles619 , wish I could help with some thoughts but I only have one WD brush and it is a synthetic 30mm. Actually one of my favorite synthetics of any. And Larry's customer service is also superb.

Look forward to your thoughts on the HMW brush though and perhaps others can chime in with feedback.

I don't have Larrys HMW, but I do have a 24mm silvertip from him and it's my daily driver. Love that brush.

Mine tangled all the time and has a hole in the center. I only used it 5 times. Now it's just an expensive reminder that sits in my cabnit. Some others had this happen too. Hopefully you get a good one.

I like the handle but given what happen I won't ever buy from there again. I wish I could somehow get the knot out and reuses the handle with some spacers but i dont know how to do that.

It looked nice though when unused.

Slyfox, you can just cut the hair at the base of the knot and use a Dremel or other rotary tool to get the rest of the hair/glue out of the handle. Purchase the knot of your choice (of the right size of course) and glue it into the handle with 2-part epoxy. Remember, with the glue, less is more. Hope this helps...

Slyfox I would also reach out to Larry if you have not done so already. Based on my experience, I would be shocked if he didn't bend over backwards to make things right regardless of how much time has passed.

Regardless, keep us posted!

My thoughts exactly. Larry is great to deal with and I'm sure he would make it right.

Ah I don't have any tools and I'm not going buy any for this, that'd out weigh just being another brush.

I did contact him, was told just to comb it. It tangles every use. Takes 5 minutes ore more to untangle it and pulls out hairs every time. Too much hassle. Badger hair just seems too finicky. It's not as tough as synthetic or boar, I don't get how others don't have tangling problems.

Also not trying to discourage anyone from buying from him, just want them to know there's s chance of getting s bad brush. I don't think I'll ever try badger again though.

Sorry to hear that you didn't get satisfactory resolution.

I have brushes of all sorts: badger, boar, synthetic and horse. Don't have any tangling problems across the spectrum. Horse can be prone to tangling and my advice to any having issues with the same is focus on the splay and use the tips more.

Not that it is true in your case, but I have also seen brushes that lose hair in the center of the knot being a result of too much pressure when lathering.

Regardless, too bad the badger didn't work out they make for great brushes if you get a good knot!

I tried that. Even with no splay it tangles. And it doesn't make good lather without any splay. My synthetics and boars splay good and have never had any problems tangling. Just loading soap tangled it. Anyways I'm a synthetic guy now, they'll way way softer and easier to use.
